Un-related to my other thread, I have recently come across a Taurus pt92 and the asking price is really nice. It is the stainless model with rosewood grips. It doesn't have a rail and the condition is very nice, it is a safe queen. What are people's thoughts on this firearm as far as reliability with ammo. My only concern is how wide it is, thoughts?

I'm pretty sure it's not stainless steel. Generally speaking most people shy away from Taurus due to lake of customer service if a problem does arise with firearm. Usually thought of as Junk. I had a little pt 25 and it was ok.

Correct, I have since spoken to the gentleman selling it, it has a nickle plated slide and an polished Aluminium frame. I have done some research and from what I can tell, the earlier models were robust firearms. The bonus here is that it has "pre-ban mass compliant goose rule" magazines, which should I peruse my mass LTC, I can bring it there to.

I usually catch a bit of flack when I slam Taurus, but you asked for opinions, so here goes. I've owned three over the years, and they were all lemons. The revolver was constantly out of time and was sent back for repair twice before it was dumped. The PT22 had the firing pin break twice and the magazine floor plate fell apart. The other revolver also went out of time and it too went back for repair. Shortly after the crane screw loosen up and fell out. In my opinion Taurus is to guns what Yugo was to cars.

Were those recent firearms or older ones, I am to hesitant too, I picked up a Taurus 1911 and from the factory, had issues, one was the barrel to barrel bushing was to loose, sent it back, 2 months later, went to re-shoot it and had issues where the barrel kept jaming on the bushing. From everythig I have seen most Taurus firearms that were recently produced in the past 5 years are the Yugo's whereas the earlier firearms has better quality control.

Have a PT92 that DOES have a stainless slide, alloy frame. Revues said they were VERY accurate....but mine shot 12" groups at 20 feet. Customer service was good, they replaced the barrel and shot 50 rounds of Hornady Critical Duty thru it. Sent the explanation and target back with the gun. Turnaround was about 2 weeks.

I'm not even being a dick about it with my post, either. You don't want a Taurus. I've been there, done that, and I have the t-shirt along with the receipts from shipping the POS back to Taurus three times. Stay far away, OP.

This. Taurus is shit.

Background? Or is this just what you've "heard" about them????
Oh...wrong thread: http://www.thehighroad.org/archive/index.php/t-193292.html

"It is common practice to attempt to blame the shooter by asking if they have ever owned/shot a Glock before, ask if they cleaned/lubed the gun out of the box, tell them that they were limp wristing, or ask what ammo was being used. The first 3 questions have no merit. The last is self correcting here, as it is known that full power ball ammo was fired. So now what?"

I've had good luck with Taurus - better luck than I've had with new S&W. Of course, I've also had good luck at the Gun Room in Shrewsbury, multiple times, and been treated like crap at guns and gear in Agawam, multiple times.

I prefer the Taurus to the Beretta, the safety seems better located on the frame than way up on the slide like the Italian piece.

Just my .02

A friends experience with a Taurus PT99 has been excellent. Bought new in 1994 it has had thousands of rounds thru it and is fairly accurate and has been reliable. That said, unless the price is extremely low, like under $200, I would opt for the Beretta.
