For $1030 I think I’d go for a Ruger, High Standard or S&W. I can’t really see a large market for these guns.

The New Woodsman® Match .22 LR

An exciting project, years in the making, USFA chose the classic “2nd generation” model Woodsman® “Match Target .22 Type” to reintroduce. Davidson’s will be the exclusive distributor of the new “Match Target .22’s” Initially made by Colt’s F.A. Mfg. Co. in that configuration in 1930’s, THE WOODSMAN® Match .22 L.R. is every sportsmen and outdoorsman’s dream, a trail & backpacking pistol and remains in strong demand among shooters and collectors alike today.

The New USFA WOODSMAN® Match .22 is hand crafted just like you’d expect from USFA, known for high quality and is made with our reverence for great workmanship. The Woodsman will be made in 2 standard barrel lengths (4-1/2” and 6”) both featuring the slab sided barrel weights, offered in our beautiful High Polish Dome Blue with checkered walnut, right hand thumb rest grips. Options such as nickel plating, engraving, custom grip materials, and matching Maxim “silencer” (sound suppressor) package will be available at extra cost.

Just as with the original Woodsman® pistols, the USFA Woodsman® pistol is 100% made in Hartford, Connecticut, USA.

These guns are now in production and on display exclusively at Davidson's Booth #11843, Shot Show 2010, Las Vegas, January 19-22. Contact Davidson’s for Pricing; 800- 367-4867 / 928-776-8055

Are these steel or aluminum, or "alloy"? A "Scandium" type alloy would be great in something like this.

What is it that makes this much better than a Buckmark?

The original Colt Woodsmans that I shot rivaled S&W41's for fit/finish accuracy. They were very nice, and hopefully the USFA ones will be as well.

The owner of USFA is a nice guy and has lots of ambitions. USFA makes quality guns but they have advertised several guns that either don't make it into production or only a few get produced.
The ones that do are high quality however.

Onipotent: Very few made and no longer in production

Lightning Rifle: A fair amount manufactured but no longer in production

1910: Very few made and no longer in production.

1911: Plans to produced have been shelved.

Maxim Silent firearm:plans to produced have been shelved.

Remington Single Action: Contracted by Remington to reproduce their 1875 models. None produced as of yet.

The gun below would be a good choice perhaps instead of the “NEW” copy of the original Colt Woodsman. You could have two used ones of the originals for the proposed price of the copy.
