Hey all, now that i have the thing, Id like to maybe trick it out, make it somewhat more functional as a carbine... Anyone have any experience adding things and where to get em????

so, no suggestions to mount a scope??? Muzzle brake??? No accurizing that can be done to it..

I dont have an owners manual with it, so i dont even know yet how to break it down. How about someone at least suggesting a good manual????

Ok, don't take this wrong. But you are getting a battle rifle. One that's most likely been carried in war by men who's life probably depended upon that carbine. To bubbaize it would be a shame of gigantic proportions.

Obviously it's your rifle and you can do to it as you'd like. But as others have stated. Please leave her as she is.

Rock, Im sorry to say, i never cosidered it that way. With that insight, I probably will only look to make period changes. I am sure that whomever used it in life or death took very good care and maintained it and did everything they could to make sure it fired true and accurately. My intent is to use my firearm much in the same way. I want an accurate and functionally reliable weapon, one that will give maximum performance. Perhaps I chose the wrong weapon.

Palladin, Thank you for the link.. hugely informative

If I had a really sweet M1 Carbine, I'd likely leave it "as is". However, there's nothing wrong with bringing an old rifle up to modern standards in my book. Purists hate them, but I think some of the accessories available can transform a historic antique, into a viable modern fighting carbine. I would love to buy or put together a "mixmaster" and add accessories that would make it more functional, like an Ultimak rail, Aimpoint, etc...

Thats my now dillema...I love the weight, feel, ammo and capacity of this thing.. I thought that perhaps making it a little more... functional ?? was in order. I think if i try to touch this thing, doobie will be confiscating it when he comes to photograph everything tomorrow :o) ( just humor guys)

If it's a Universal, and not a USGI carbine, then do whatever the hell you want to it.

I had a forward mount and EOTech on my Saginaw, but I took it off (no permanent modifcations). It was nice, but it's hard to miss with an M1 even with the irons.

If it's a universal, mod it to your heart's content. If it were USGI, like mine, I wouldn't do anything but clean and oil it. If it's one of the ones with a leaf rear sight, put an aperture sight or a low power scope on it.

I know there's a rail mount for it but I forget who makes it. It seems like the type of gun that a red dot scope would be good for.
