Trouble installing Hogue Monogrip on Blackhawk

Bought a round trigger guard super Blackhawk. Learned the hard way I needed Blackhawk grip instead of super Blackhawk grip, but still having issues installing it. Any suggestions. I get the grip on, cannot get the screw to engage the stirrup. What am I missing.

Is the screw too short? I use a long tapered punch to allign the stirrup with the screw hole. If you have tried it a few times, take the grip off an run the screw in the hole to chase the threads.

The awl is a wonderful idea, I'll try that
