According to the WSJ article, they first spotted a detail of five men showed up to cut wood. Then a few others showed up and one started giving orders. This is E5 level stuff.

In other words, they shot the most junior LT in the theater. Just wasn’t his day.

Some are disputing the “kill” because it is not confirmed. Others say no way he survives a hit with that round.

It all depends where he got hit. At that distance every round is going to lose a metric shit ton of energy by the time it gets there, if it even makes it that far.

Chest or head, yeah, he's done. Any of the limbs he has a shot to survive.

And yeah, Officers or other high ranking people wouldn't be anywhere near wood chopping... That's a bunch of E2s and E3s being supervised by a E4 or an E5.

So they MAYBE killed a Corporal. Still a great shot if it even hit the target anywhere, but it maybe deserves one or 2 high fives at best in the grand scheme of things.
