It is said for some reason the WASR 10 (AK type) has dried up in Mass gun shops. Does anyone know why they are almost impossible to get? North Shore firearms had said they had the last remaining one sold in the state and dont know when they're able to get more in. Some gentleman drove across the state to snag it the other day. Also on Four Seasons website, they're out and cant find any. I'm aware someone is going to write back saying some shop has them, but just a few months ago, everyone had them on their shelves.

have you tried Zero Hour Arms ?
I have not noticed this myself but then again have not been looking directly.

Matty you are right, the WASR's have dried up and not just here in MA but as I'm told everywhere in the country.
We have one Romanian left but it's a "G" kit gun, factory done, and yes fsorren they are more expensive, but it's a reflection of what we get charged from the distributor.

I am told about 5 different stories as to why but who knows what the real reason is. I have been trying to order some chaeper WASR's for weeks now with no luck.

Best,

If you look at the major importer/distributor of the WASR, you'll notice that they have tagged all hi-cap versions as "Not For Sale in MA". And this is neutered versions.

I'm glad I picked up 2 last time I could get them. Not that the resale value will be that much more, but just to have one N.I.B I figured would be a good idea.

Hopefully the rumor about Norinco setting up shop here in America is true. Then there could be the possibility that we could get well made American AK variants

I doubt it. By the time Norinco gets here we'll have a new president and most likely more anti gun crap.
At one time all the military and military style guns were much cheaper but like everything the price rises, especially in military firearms. Lesser importation, tighter regulations, parts stock piles drying up and the fact that many coutries are choosing more modern weapons (even in AK types) equals higher priced guns.
If I could find an SAR 1 in as good of shape as mine for $400 I'd grab it in a second. I still kick myself in the ass for not buying one at a show for $340 a year or so ago.

Thanks for all your input. What would be the closest in AK type available now around here? How about the Russian-American Saiga in 7.62x39 or .308? Fairly inexpensive. Less than $400. Is there anything else?

Century Arms?

They list the "neutered" version as not for sale in NJ, CA, CT...

Kind of a moot point I guess since they have them listed as "coming soon" (which could very well mean, weeks months or never).

If Century is having a problem importing them, then it's quite possible that we might not see any new WASR's anytime soon.

The Century post made me look up this pic from the SKS boards. [laugh]

There are Russian models that are good quality and some are coming in with standard AK config including pistol grip and high cap magazines. I'm guessing you could get one with a 10 round that accepts high caps and buy pre ban. The traditional AK style ones are more money though but it is after all a Russian AK47.
Saiga has a new style Russian military AK-103 rifle with bayonet lug, brake and all that I'd love to have but we can't have them here in Mass.[sad]

just as a reminder, collectors firearms in stoneham has wasr10's in. their pricey though, around $470 if i remember correctly

I was just at a gun show in Marlboro last weekend. I saw at least 4 WARS 10's Ma. compliant. Around $300. Gotta love Ma. law. No muzzle break or bayonet lug, so its not considered an "assault rifle". Most WASR's accept hi cap mags, (even in Ma.) I bought mine 3 years ao for $200 new. Good rifle but I only bought it because I couldn't get my hands on a SAR-1

As some of you may have seen in my posts, a buddy of mine got control of an estate collection after the death of a family friend. There were two WASR's in the collection they are both 5.45x39. I believe one is still available for sale(maybe both). If interested PM me and I can put you in touch, rifles are located in CT.
Here's a thread with pics the rifles

ive heard the reason is that they have to have some one make barrels for them now, rather than import the barrels from russia

ive seen a few at gun and sport north for about 470 but i wouldnt pay that price. also i was told that they are going up to over 500 soon
