What are the stages of the LTC application?

Friendly tip: Include the state that you are referring to.

PD sends to state, state sends back to PD. Just did my renewal early and it took 6 weeks from application to getting it in the mail.

I am in a small town, and the clerk at my local PD that handles them is a personal friend, and I also asked her to fast track it on her end, because of the new bullshit incoming.

I do think a lot of these get hung up on PD desks.......my clerk told me the state generally takes about 4 weeks or so at least. So if your getting jerked around for months, its likely your local PD.

Other than that legally having to get a permission slip to own a firearm....you should feel nothing but sadness.

Makes sense, I called back and it's still pending PD review. This is going on to my fourth week. I figure they probably would've denied by now if the wanted too, or maybe they haven't even done anything yet. Do you know if they will update the status to when they send it to the state police? Or is everything done at the police department? And then a final decision, that's made? One of my friends in the same town said it took him months to get it.

I am in the same town. Mine expires in a couple years, should I call to make an appointment tomorrow morning?
 
I applied the end of March and was told it should be in by the end of May. I got an E-mail stating it is in but I can't pick it up until the day the old one expires at the end of the month. Fine by me and the PD has convenient enough hours, 3 days a week during the day and two days at night for walk-in pickups. It's much better than it used to be. This is my third renewal with the "new" guy. The previous one was, for lack of a better expression, kind of a dick. Maybe he was doing it for too long.

"Can't pick it up until the old one expires" is still quite a dick policy
 
I'm assuming they would've denied me by now if they wanted to, however it probably will take the 4-6 weeks that they told me, I'm almost certain I'm the only applicant within town. I have some stuff on my record that got dismissed so maybe a longer hangup because of that. I'm starting to think that the under PD review is an answer they give until they can say "Denied" Or "Approved". I thought that it would be more comprehensive such as submitted to MSP etc.

It was a shit town like I said under the old licensing cop, it was a red town on the map but it's gotten better under the 'newer" (as in like the last ten years or so) one. Decent sort and easy to deal with. Just bring in what the posted requirements are (standard state crap, no extras) and you're gone in about 15 minutes, for renewals anyway. Most of the time is spent on shuffling papers about. As for the wait to expiration, meh, whatever. The place is 5 minutes from me and 20 minutes from any other part of town and the hours are convenient. With everything else happening, it's not the hill I'm too concerned with.

Calling and calling and calling again probably won't hurt, but it won't help. They're on their own time, and you're not going to make them move faster. Hell, they're not afraid of violating the actual law, as written; why would they care any more than that about your phone call?

It sucks, but be patient. If the issuing authority has told you they'll call you in 6-8 weeks, they're the most reliable source for "what's next." Calling and getting more and more disappointed will just give you agita.

Just an update, I waited 6 weeks, sent a formal letter, the Sargeant told me if I still hear nothing in 2-3 weeks to message the lieutenant. The status is still "Under review by the PD". I'm just curious if they were sitting on it, awaiting a reply from the state, or what the next status even is. I assume it will just either day approved or denied. I can't imagine It would take this long for a denial though. Fingers crossed though.

Nice! I called again after another week to the hotline ans it's "Still under review by the PD" I expect the status to change to anything soon enough. 😆. I have a few things from my past that may raise an eyebrow for suitably depending on the officer, although I spoke with a lawyer and he Says there should be no issues so here's hoping. I've assumed I'd have been denied by now. However I'm just going to remain being patient I'll eventually know. My friend from the same town said it took him months and months.
