What happened to the PPS?

For some reason, most gunsmiths in this region tell you politely to go screw when you bring them a PPS. Initially there were a few that would do these but they all suddenly stopped, like the gun has AIDS or something.. Apparently the gun is a bitch to take apart, or the parts are hard to get or something like that... or another possibility is something is easily broken. One guy on her said he tried to flip a gunsmith extra money (to the tune of $100 over what the guy normally gets) and he still wouldn't touch it.

wow that's interesting. Hope mine never breaks or needs work. I love the thing.

There's no law that says guns have to have a 10lb trigger when they're sold

but there is a regulation that says exactly that.

(2) It shall be an unfair or deceptive practice for a handgun-purveyor to transfer or offer to transfer to any customer located within the Commonwealth any handgun which does not contain a mechanism which effectively precludes an average five year old child from operating the handgun when it is ready to fire; such mechanisms shall include, but are not limited to: raising trigger resistance to at least a ten pound pull, altering the firing mechanism so that an average five year old child's hands are too small to operate the handgun, or requiring a series of multiple motions in order to fire the handgun.

single action only get around this. DAO guns all have to have a 10lb pull to be transferred by an FFL in MA. DA/SA guns like Sigs have to have that first pull be >= 10lbs.

It's ok though because it's for our own good. Marsha is protecting us.

I'll look into that. I'm guessing he won't install it though.

I would ask since it says this on his website: "Earl's Repair Service, Inc. is a Factory Direct Walther Representative in the U.S. as well as an Importer, Distributor, and Factory Authorized Service and Warranty Repair Center for Carl Walther GmbH products including all pistols, rifles, spare parts, and accessories manufactured in Ulm, Germany."

The regulation actually includes a 10lb trigger pull as ONE method to prevent a child from firing the gun. Manufacturers can use other methods instead, but the 10lb trigger pull is sufficient. So it's not required but it's apparently the easiest/cheapest route to compliance.

true.

I didn't see the disconnector listed on his website but I sent an email asking if he sold it. If he gets back to me and says yes I'll ask if he wants to install it, it's not a far ride for me. It would be worth a trip up there and a couple bucks to let someone who knows what they are doing do it. I re-browsed the thread detailing how to do the install and it is a little intimidating

+1 on that. I love my PPS 9mm. I use my trigger finger to drop the mag. I have big hands, but there's no need to adjust my grip to access the mag release paddle on the trigger guard.

I've put thousands of rounds through mine with no problems. The trigger pull on the PPS is heavy, but the reset is short. Followup shots are a breeze. It absolutely disappears on your hip when carried.

I've shot the Shield. I like it, but the grip doesn't feel as solid to me as it does on the PPS.

I use the social finger on my firing hand to drop the mag, works great and easy to train up on. No problems switching platforms to American-style mag releases.

Walther has taken control of the distribution of their product in the US this being the reason why you still can't find parts or product. This was supposed to be a quick setup over 6 months, but to the best of my knowledge is didn't go as smoothly as they hoped.

The mass 10lb trigger is actually more than likely a 12-15lb trigger....

Decent gun if the magazine baseplate design wasn't the stupidest thing ever...

I actually had a local dealer come through for me ask I will have to decide if I want to do the S disconnector. I emailed the person in the link listed above if they had the S disconnector and they said they did. I asked if they would do the install and I waiting for a reply but I probably won't know till Thursday.

The PPS is a great gun... Love mine!
I was lucky and found one in 9mm at Four Seasons with the S disconnector... It's been my CCW for a little over 2 years now.

What do you think is wrong with the base plate? [rolleyes]

The trigger pull on mine was >18 pounds until I replaced the disconnector.

Is installing the disconnector as bad as they say it is? I've had a PPS and the S disconnector sitting in the safe for a year and half. I haven't gotten around to putting it in, or shooting the gun much.

It was a major pain in the ass. There are some instructions posted here somewhere that are quite good though. I wish I had them when I tackled it. Just the fact that it's a simple part swap, yet most gunsmiths won't touch it should be a tip off.

I remember when you got that gun. You were one of the first ppl on here if I recall to swap out the disconnector. Do you still have and use the gun?

Yup. I've been carrying it ever since.

If you have man hands changing a magazine requires you to drastically change your grip in order to not get your hand caught between the "teeth" on the backside of the magazine. It's dumb, and there is not a single reason walther needed to or should have designed a magazine like that.

Mine didn't like certain hollow points, but I think that was an isolated issue as feeding issues is not a common problem I've heard with the PPS.

Huh, I have enormous monkey paws for hands and I haven't ever had that happen. Not saying it doesn't happen to you, but has never been an issue for me and I have all of the available mag sizes in .40 (5 with flat base plate, 6 and 7 rounders).

Mine was just over 16 lbs with the h.
The S brought it down to just over 6.
Can't say enough about it. Well worth the cost or hassle to install

I am in the process of finding another gun to try out. I'm looking at primarily single stack guns 9mm/.45acp. One of the guns that I've always kind of had an interest in was the PPS. I don't know why but i think with the lighter trigger installed I may like it a little better than the Shield.

It came to my attention these things have either been sold out or on backorder for months. Have they been discontinued or has supply not caught up to demand? I almost got one 2 years ago and they were plentiful then. When they first came out, forget it you couldn't find one, now it seems to be back that way. Did the 9mm shield essentially kill it?

I was just curious. Other guns I'm looking at are the P9, XDS, and Shield. I have a PM9 which kinda got inherited, great gun but I figured maybe try something a little different.

**I should have put I haven't been able to find the MA model in stock anywhere or online. I've found them on gunbroker and a few in stock online but they have all been the standard model.**

My 2 cents. I have been a glock guy since I started shooting. I like many other guns don't get me wrong but when I got my hands on a S&W shield I was hooked. It feels great. The extended mag is great for range use, even the flush mags feels great in my big hands. I was lucky enough to get a standard trigger with my shield, but as a single stack 9mm gun I carry mine around all the time and really like it. Best of luck

I bought one a couple of years ago and have been very happy with it. I did have to swap out one part to bring down the trigger pull. It was a bit tricky, but no real problem if you just carefully follow directions available on-line. An accurate gun with absolutely no failures of any kind, and very comfortable to carry. Only thing I don't like is the trigger guard mag release, which takes some practice to get used to.

The PPS is trickling in, I bought one at my lgs a few weeks ago. Had the S connector from the dealer, think Ft Smith made a mistake but whatever.
Its a great trigger.

I like it way better than the shield and its a great little carry and accurate. Reliable as heck, low recoil
