Back in the days of the Blizzard of '78, most all gas pumps were mechanical in nature.

Today, 99% of gas pumps are all electronic. Without electricity, the gas stays in the ground! You can't get it out in any practical fashion.

So unless you have your own gravity-fed tank farm, once your car/truck tank is empty, there she sits dead until the SHTF situation is all over!

find a mechanical pump and pump it out of the in ground tanks through the fill caps in the ground... problem solved (unlit the tanks are empty)
