What's my choices in a home defense shotgun?

I'm partial to 870s.

A buddy of mine was previously a reserve cop in Wayland. He swore off Mossberg after having seen several Mossberg pumps coming apart on the range during police training.

I don't have any first-hand experience with Mossberg pumps.

I love the Marine Magnums. How is that finish holding up for you?

It's great, FWIW, if you look hard enough you can find one of these used once in awhile, for substantially
less than the $500-600 price tag. I bought mine off the shotgun rack at FS a long time ago... I think it was like 2 and change, basically looked brand new!

Mossy 590 are decent. I had two. First one from a looong time ago and most recently below.

The come pre-drilled for a rail and have countless aftermarket add ons which makes for supreme mall-ninjitsuness.

I had a Beretta 1201 about twelve years ago, and loved it. Wouldn't mind finding another one at a reasonable price some day. As far as pumps go it's pretty much a toss up between any Mossberg 500 variant or the Remmy 870.

Was yours an FP? Pistol grip, rifle sights, 6-round mag makes it an "Assault Shotgun." [wink]

Mossberg 500 gets my vote. I've got countless hundreds of rounds through it over the past few years and I think I've only cleaned it 3 or 4 times and I've never had a problem with it.
