I have an older Tektronix 500MHz, 4ch digital o-scope (TDS 744A). I'm in mourning today. Last night it died. The power supply is in hiccup mode (every 1-2 seconts it tries to turn on, then shuts off, waits and tries again). They sell for $1,500 on eBay so this one is probably worth repairing.

Can someone recomend a repair shop?

Maybe this is just me but if you have a scope you must know how to use it right? If this is true just fix it like you would anything else with the scope.

Personally I would try to get the service manual and then likely a replacement power supply if I couldn't repair the supply itself.

Repair shops will be expensive but maybe worth checking some out. Perhaps call Tek directly.

My normal reaction is to try to fix it myself. And I tried opening it up just to see if there was something obvious. I couldn't bet the damned thing open! Their packaging is elegant and very hostile to users.

I fix a lot of stuff, but I decided this won't be one of them.
