With the New firearms safety laws what pistols can be owned

The SP5 doesn't pass the feature test as delivered

151 (b) a semiautomatic pistol with the capacity to accept a detachable feeding device and includes at least 2 of the following features:
(i) the capacity to accept a feeding device that attaches to the pistol outside of the pistol grip;
(ii) a second handgrip or a protruding grip that can be held by the non-trigger hand;
(iii) a threaded barrel capable of accepting a flash suppressor, forward handgrip or silencer; or
(iv) a shroud that encircles either all or part of the barrel designed to shield the bearer’s hand from heat, excluding a slide that encloses the barrel.

Fails (i), (iii) and (iv) therefore an ASF and banned
But could be cured by removing the barrel shroud and pinning the muzzle device.

Thank you, so you could pin the thread protector and remove the forearm. There are more than a few of these in Ma already pre 8/1 most were probably SBR’d. I don’t see why you would ever want one without a forearm/handguard but thats something you would have to decide yourself.

I'm only speaking to the legality with respect to 4885 changes.
I don't question why anyone wants a particular gun (I own a S&W bodyguard and some BCA uppers so I can't comment on gun preferences)

I really appreciate your thoughtful reply's to the questions about 4885.
I really meant to reply to the OP with that one but my mistake I hit the wrong one.

yes, that's what you have to do. pin some other thread protector and remove handguard.
i guess I'm coming at it like ar pistol.

Can someone explain it to me like I'm a child please? Because I lack historical knowledge of Massachusetts restrictions, and a lot of the posts seem to assume a certain level of background information.

What I think I understand thus far:

1.) If its on the roster it's good to go

1a.) Exception 1: It just can't have a magazine larger than 10 rounds

1.b) Exception 2: Glocks are different for some reason and can only be sold to law enforcement, at least new, unless you do some sort of used transfer (havent figured these out yet)

2.) If its not on the roster, it has to have been legally owned inside Massachusetts on August 2nd of this year, or it can no longer be transferred in Massachusetts?

3.) Potential exceptions for certain features? I believe I've read something about threaded barrels?

I'm really confused. And every time I try to start reading more to confuse myself, I just get more confused.

Is there a simple authoritative explanation of all of this somewhere (preferably in non-legalese) I can read up on?

There is also a super secret AG roster that doesn't exist that handguns need to comply with - that's why Glocks are on the approved roster but can't be transferred.

The roster is what a dealer can transfer to you - as long as a gun doesn't run afoul of the assault-style BS then it is perfectly legal to own regardless of the date it entered Mass

Read the definition for assault-style firearm - the evil features list for each class of firearm is there

Several of us have posted plain language explanations of all the stuff you are asking about - then people shit post and the good stuff is lost.
I tried to create a thread for people to only post incorrect information seen at the range, gun store, etc and that got filled with shit posts before I could post the first informative post on muzzleloaders.

So, no there isn't a good place to get a bunch of answers because NES is NES.

As the title says what pistols can be owned, not bought via roster but owned, say your someone moving from another state to mass.
I know there been discussion on this but i think we should have its own thread.

Seems like they copied the old definition, barrel shroud etc but. still confusion, the weight requirement is gone, I think
please let us discuss this logically

Lets develop NES fire arms roster.
Water Pistols, small capacity only. cannot load grape juice.

Can you not shit post on this please . some of us are trying to find the loop holes and make this lousy situation better.

Legal yes but pretty pointless without a forearm.
Yes and no
single handed then no problem
just use the mag well and hold it there if need other hand. if you put out your two hands in front of you its more vertical, the magwell to me would be more comfortable. you need to rotate your wrist to grab it around the barrel. It may not be as controllable as grabbing the around the barrel
