Worcester Pistol and Rifle Club

Hi all!

Do you have a friend or loved one that is interested in obtaining their LTC?
Whether they're brand new to firearms or want to strengthen their basic knowledge base...this is THE class to have them sign up for!
What makes this different than other classes?
Two instructors with well over 40 years experience combined.
A full display of pistols to learn from...and range time!
My brief description that does this course no justice. You've just gotta experience it yourself!
Sign up for this class ends tonight. Class is tomorrow (5/19/24).

Would this class qualify someone for the basic firearm safety class required to obtain their LTC?

Hi! Thank you for your reply.

Section 3.05 - Basic Firearms Safety Course Curriculum Approval Certification
Long answer to your question. Yes. This is the NRA Basic Pistol Course.
The instructor is almost certainly certified by MA as a basic firearms safety instructor, since he strongly implies the class qualifies for an LTC, however, classes listed do not count without the certificate from the MA certified instructor.

Technically speaking, the answer "Long answer to your question. Yes. This is the NRA Basic Pistol Course." does not convey sufficient information.

Wouldn't the fact that I have my LTC prove the highly strict Peoples Republic of Massachusetts feels I'm qualified to handle and load my firearms? Maybe the training should focus on guests of members who DON'T have an LTC? Maybe folks without LTCs should be restricted from the indoor range? Not trying to be offensive but this seems Orwellian to me.

I appreciate your concern, and though I think your question should be asked to a eboard member in person, I will give you a few thoughts.

Being that if a person takes the home firearm safety course, this alone qualifies you to obtain your LTC. There is no live fire during this course nor is there typically any hands on training. So to answer your question, no, just because you have a LTC does not qualify you as a safe shooter, being able to safely handle a loaded firearm, and be able to unload a loaded firearm. All new members need to pass a live fire safety qualification. If you have any further questions, feel free to reach out to any eboard members.

You can either politely comply and be welcomed, or raise a fuss about how you are an expert and should be exempt, and probably lose the argument.

The club is walking a path of extreme caution, not attempting to disrespect you or your LTC. I've had my NRA and MA instructor cards since before a significant percent of club members were born (well, the NRA one at least - MA instructor cert #7 was issued many years after my NRA cert), and I would not ask for an exemption if I were joining the club.
