Ok so I want a .17hmr gun, but not any are out to my liking. I like sights
(preferably a hooded front sight), and wood stocks. So one gun is really what I want, a Marlin 925m. One problem though, its a .22 wmr. So my question is: can I shoot .17 hmr rounds out of a .22 wmr gun?[hmmm]

What's your budget?

CZ 452 FS is available in 17 HMR, and CZ makes a really nice rifle.

Ordinarily, I'd say Savage, but you'd have to add sights, and after the last review of a 93R17 here, I'm a little hesitant to recommend them unless you can look at it first.

Web maybe? Will you then be called killakyle.17?[grin] J/K, Why not just stay with a .22?

Welcome the the board.

Well, shooting a .17 HMR out of a .22 Mag would like throwing a hot dog down a hallway.

My recommendations are simple.

Get a .22 LR you like, and buy it is one option. Ammo is dirt cheap, and usually available.

Get a .22 Mag you like, and put up with the ammo cost.

Get a .17 HMR you don't like the stock on, and get a different stock.

By the way, it's almost always easier and cheaper to change the stock than the barrel, and stocks are usually available, or can be made.

On Guns and Ammo tv last week they had a rifle that shot 22 lr,22 mag, 17 mag and 17h2. the trick was interchangeable barrels. Was by Sako I think.

The thing is, though, I dont like the synthetic stocks, they feel really cheap in my opinion, and uncomfortable.

The Marlin comes with a laminate stock which some people dont like but i find attractive and very stable in any weather condition. I agree about the plastic stocks though im not a big fan.

. Call marlin and ask them if they can get you 917V with sights, or put that stock on another 917 action and barrel that has sights. It looks to be the .17 version of the 22 you like. It is going to give you the closest end product to what you want.

How do I know wether they fit or not? Alot of the sites dont specify. Do you know a specific brand I should look into?

Boyds gunstocks is one place to try, or like another said call Marlin direct and ask if the will change a configuration for you. This will increase the end price of the rifle for sure but it doesnt hurt to try.

The Marlin 917V comes w/ a wood stock. No sights as it is a Varmint heavy barrel, you need a scope. I like mine allot!!
