Hello:

I am the original owner of a Colt AR-15 A2 CARBINE .223 Vitage late 1980's

I had purchased some bulk 5.56mm ammo in the past and am now reading articles that 5.56mm ammo may or may not be able to be fired in .223 stamped weapons.

Will my rifle tolerate 5.56mm ammo, and if not are there modifications that can me made to the weapon to allow it to accepts both calibers?

The barrel stamp tells the story. Unless you are loading very light 5.56mm rounds that you put through a chrono I would either hang on to the ammo and build another rifle or just buy a new barrel for the pony.

As far as i know the marking on the barrel is the most important. I've always shot L.C. 5.56 out of my 89' Colt Gov't model with no issues.
