Ok I'm going to be in the market for a new .40. Anyone have any suggestions? Please no suggestions of over priced Glocks.. I know they are great guns but don't want to pay the mass premium for them.
I like the feel of the shield but looking for other suggestions.

Mike

I'm a huge fan of the Steyr S. amazing trigger, super comfy in hand and acquire targets easy thanks to its stellar ergonomics. Really hard to find but as of Thursday Pullman Arms in Worcester had one for $550

No need to pay a premium for Glocks, especially fotays which are plentiful. Gen 2's can be had for $500.

Range or carry ?

Mostly range but I might carry off and on. I'm just looking for a good gun...

I actually had one in my hands about a month ago at Pullman.

If it's for the range and has to be a 40, I'd go with what ever fit's your hand and is not Polymer. S&W Gen. 3's (4034/4046 etc.) can be had for reasonable money and are soft shooting 40's. Just my 2'cents....................

Agreed. I have an HK p30l .40 which is a really well built firearm. Only gripe is the trigger but its still a joy to shoot. I've run 1000 rounds of every type of ammo thru and never a single issue.

SigPro. Accurate, nice trigger, can have one brand new for the same price as a used Glock, and dead reliable.

M&P 40 is pretty nice, only downside is the trigger is a little stiff though since we have to put up with MA. Can be fixed though. Sig 226 or 229 is also a good choice. Glock is my favorite though. Look around and hopefully you can find one without the premium

Ruger SR40c. Inexpensive, great trigger out of the box, easy to carry and very soft shooting for a 40

Other than that my favorite is still a g22.

I like my M&P.40 a lot (my first handgun), because it goes bang everytime and hits exactly where I point it. And it points very naturally for me, readily coming back on target for quick follow up shots. I don't really enjoy shooting it, but do so to keep sharp with it (HD). It's kinda boring, actually. I'm thinking a 1911 or 92SF will be my "range" gun.

Glock 22s are nice, there a ton of aftermarket parts. M&P are great guns too, just get the apex kit. Best of luck

why doe nobody ever mention the s&w sigma? great gun and i've never had any problems with mine i love it. i only paid 300 for mine used but in brand new condition. i did get it from someone i new but the deals are out there. so i'd like to know do not many people have them or does nobody like them and why?

There are a number of people here on NES who had a Sigma and had very different experiences than you, including multiple trips to the factory after which the gun still didn't work.

Sig 226/229, HK USP, M&P 40. I love love love my HK but for the price you can't beat the M&P. With a trigger job it's almost indistinguishable from a Glock.

I have a M&P 40c that I am very happy with. Very happy with the accuracy for a carry gun, and it handles .40 very well. I shot a Glock 27 that I wasn't crazy about, and think the 40c handles the .40 round better. I've also shot a compact H&K 40 and like the M&P 40c better. Just plan on spending some cash for a trigger kit so it doesn't surprise you as an extra cost later.

A buddy has the Ruger in 9 and is very happy with it, and then you don't have to mess with the trigger. I am just not a fan on external safeties.

I find that it carries well even in the summer with just a t-shirt, and I use a cheap-o Bass Pro Shops holster.

Sig sauer p226 a little big for carry but not bad. Its a friggin tack driver and very reliable i've shot quite a few different s&w and dont like the trigger pull or feel of the trigger and the cheaper plastic models are very snappy on the wrists they are fairly accurate but like i said they just dont feel right maybe im spoiled by my sig! And before any one says anything i do own a s&w686 7 shot revolver thats has a trigger job, so i do like s&w just not their semis.

i love my fnp 40, and i've shot my friend's HK USP 40. Both are great
