Another fun "ONE GUN" thread!

In 30 minutes I could almost pack up my house and move. In 10 minutes I could arm everybody in the family and grab 50000 rounds in a flash with a 2 wheeler.

If I only had 5 minutes I would grab 4-AR's, 4 full size pistols 10000 rounds.

The hard part would be deciding what to leave behind! And God forgive me, but I know when I am peeling out in my pick up truck, I would look at my wife and think " Damn.. I could have stacked 30000 rounds on that seat...."

I am kidding, of course. I might need a sammich in the days ahead.

Really? It takes 10 minutes just to get both kids to pee. Cause invariably after a minute in the bathroom I hear "Papa, I have to poop!"

AR all day everyday, it used to be an AK but my thought process is in a long term SHTF scenario I believe it would be easier to find 5.56 than 7.62x.39

Am I the only one that thinks I'll be lucky to get off one mag before getting winged by a bullet and dying from sepsis? I just don't see the need for hundreds/thousands of rounds of ammo.

No. You're not the only one.

You're not likely to be assaulting objectives or providing support by fire in a SHTF scenario. Or I'm not, anyway. I'm planning on being dug in somewhere like an Alabama tick.

If my yuge stockpile of 7.62x39 isn't enough, I'm doing something very, very wrong.

LOL - my kids are older. My 16 year old son is benching about 250 now. Going to buy him a new snow shovel for Christmas.

I mean the threads point was "Fun"right? I'm not planning on a SHTF scene like most people who are actually hoping for it.

I probably have more ammo than most people here, my SHTF plans were the gov actually banning semi auto ammo. And worst case scenario I'm in my house for as long as I can stay, but in that mad max world your not carrying your stockpile of 7.62, your just not so after your 500 rounds that you take IF you had to leave gets lost, taken or whatever you would have better luck finding 5.56

Thirty minutes is a good chunk of time. No family to worry about, so I'm substituting guns for family, and bugging out in a vehicle rather than on foot is a major plus. Grabbing 2 foot lockers full of ammo and extra mags, my 1911, Mossberg 500, Mini-14 and my K-Bar. Grab the bug out bag full of medical, fire-making, and various emergency supplies, plus the one already in the vehicle. 4 cases of water, a dozen MREs, and a change of underwear. Ten minutes to spare, watch the news for up-dates.

I'm probably staying put. Might make a foraging raid to the nearby costco, but everybody else might have the same idea so maybe not.

This thread is a good reminder that in a post-apocalyptic world, check deserted vehicles stranded on the freeway for supplies of food and ammo.

Ugh, to chose one gun... I don't yet have the gun I would choose as a single bug out weapon, yet... My choice? A Ruger Charger with an arm brace attachment and multiple 20-50 round mags ready to go. I'd choose a scope with LER and a 1.5-7 zoom (able to work at close range defense situations to long range game getting needs). A suppressor for 22Lr use is on the list as well. A couple full bricks of HV ammo are not to heavy and should last a long time. In the mean time I have a well set up 22 bolt rifle and 22 handguns that will do. My EDC Ruger LCP will come along also.

Who bugs OUT?

I plan to bug IN. As such I'll have a .357, a .45, a 9mm, an AR carbine, a semi-automatic and bolt-action .308, a 12ga 870 pump shotgun, and a 10/22. That oughta get me through.

One gun. HA! P'shaw!

OK - Even if bugging IN, and I could only have one gun, it'd be my FrankenAR carbine w/ red-dot sight. Good stand-off weapon.

If its only one gun its going to be a scoped FAL in .308

Used to be an AK47 but I'm upping the horsepower a little bit due to a change of terrain.[smile]

I’m curious since I’m considering a SCAR but unsure about 16s vs 17s, what do you feel like is the advantage of the 17s? In MA, the 16s has the advantage of pre-ban mags (and for me shared ammo with my AR).

I'm not sure one really has an advantage over the other, depends what you want from your rifle, they both have advantages and disadvantages over eachother. If you already have 556 rifles then I'd go with the 17 for sure. I did end up buying both and i have to say the 16 Is a sweet shooting rifle, but I can't necessarily say it has replaced my AR's. in my opinion the 16 and 17 has a slightly more reliable operating system over a gas system so I'd choose one of them in a SHTF scenario.
Long story short, I'd get the 17 first, then down the road decide whether you want it's baby brother, shooting the 17 may help you decide on getting the 16.

The only place I'm bugging out is Valhalla. If my bunker is getting flooded then most everyone is dead already. Mak is already on me, I'm grabbing a sandwich and turning Tchaikovsky up.
