I've been trying to like the trigger on my S&W Volunteer but I just can't seem to get there. I like that is flat, but that's about it. Not to fond of the take up. It's kind of gritty to boot. And it's not exactly a light pull.

Don't know much about AR triggers. I guess there are two choices, drop in and standard. Which type do you lean toward and what are some nice options? Thx Pete

Buy a LaRue MBT and be done with it.

The break is nice on them, but I never liked the shape of the shoe.

The Centurion 2 stage is great. I’m sure other Schmidt made 2 stages are the same.

I prefer standard. I do own a drop in, but only because it’s for a non-AR and it had to be a drop in.

My larue works great, like pappym3, i'm not in love with feel of shoe.
I'd pick up a geiselle sd-combat, which is my favorite.
Should be able to find one for ~$140 on black friday sale.

Triggertech adaptable - best out there.
i was a huge fan of triggertechs. until it started to go full auto on me, then a second did the same.
i think they do not age well. and it is a design issue.

i set them all now to 3lbs, that seems to keep them ok, but i`ve lost my trust in them. ymmv.

ps. all my ar15s and ar10s are now on larues.

I have Rise Armament trigger packs in a few of my lowers. Got Velocity packs in a couple more (part of a sweet deal years back).

IMO, it all comes down to how much money you're willing to spend on the trigger pack. I've been very happy with the ~$100 Rise packs as well as the Velocity packs. The Rise are easier to install though. Also comes with the anti-walk pins, so less long term concerns there.

This. The rise triggers are all I use now in my AR builds. Great value

Geissele (pronounced 'guys-lee') makes a nice trigger. I have two of their SSAs on very accurate bench rifles, including a .308AR

If you like that flat face check out POF's 'EFP' (enhanced finger placement) trigger. nice single stage 4lb and the shape puts the pad of your trigger finger in the right spot. comes with anti-walk pins. I have this in an AR carbine and really like it. It didn't function in the .308 (light strikes)

Larue shoe is too wide, so it’s good if you have sausage fingers. Personally I like the triggertech duty single stage. I also like the geissele ssa, bit it’s like twice the price.

Triggertech and Timney 2-stage triggers here. The Triggertech adjustment set-screw becomes a bit sloppy if trying to adjust for a very light pull. The two-stage Timney feels better to me. Otherwise, both brands have been great. Both smooth. Both have a glassy break. Both make for a large improvements over OE.

I found a timney single stage drop in for 97 bucks. Supposed to have a 3 to 4 pound pull. That seemed like short money to try something different.

My wife's Christensen had a single stage that breaks at around 3 pounds, might be less. I love that thing.
Seeing that, and some of the prices listed above, explains why I haven't been able to sell mine that was used 2x. I even compared prices on "discount" sites, and thought I was inline. I guess not. I never had complaints about my CMC 3.5 single-stage. It's just that my current rifle came with something good enough (for me) already installed).

Are those anti walk pins necessary for drop ins or is that just a solution looking for a problem?
IME, the better ones come with them. You can get them for short money if it doesn't. I bought a few extras for use with the velocity trigger packs. Pease of mind is worth it to me. Plus they're easier to remove later.

Supposedly they are a good idea. With a standard trigger the pins are designed to rotate. With a cassette trigger they don’t rotate. So they rely on tension screws. But that’s not the greatest idea. So the thought behind em is lighter tension, and use the anti walk pins to ensure pins stay in place.

This is only what I’ve read. I haven’t seen any further proof that this is the case.

The curved one looks like the same PSA uses for their "EPT" enhanced triggers. Best bang for buck upgrade at around $30-40 and way better than a standard gritty mil spec. Not an FRT-15L3 at $700 though and doesn't try to be.
