I noticed that almost all of the major online retailers of firearms parts are virtually out of everything AR related. You can't even buy stocks or lower parts. Everything is gone. When are people going to stop buying? This is getting insane. I read that even if nobody buys anything tomorrow, it will still take months and months for the manufactures to fulfill all of the backorders.

Oh well, I have my lowers and I am sitting on them until they pass the new AWB and prices drop like a rock afterward.

It's been this way for two months now. Most of the dealers I talk to are expecting things to ease up in the early summer IF

IF

IF

There is no legislative action that sends things through the roof again.

i'm with you man. I've finally got a line on a S&W stripper lower that isn't price gouged. But even when/if I get it, I'm afraid I wont get a complete gun until the summer at best. You just can't get the stuff. If you can, it's $$$$$. And even then, who know if I will even be allowed to build one.

I read somewhere on here that even if you have a stripped lower now, and BHO passes a new ban tomorrow, that lower is now non-compliant because it wasnt a complete gun before the ban.

...Truth?

No ban on the horizon, it'll probably take 3-6 months to ease up...an ban on the horizon... it won't ease up.

I'm fairly certain just about any of the parts needed for an AR build can be found at a reasonable rate... but the two things I can't seem to find are barrels or LPKs.

It'll increase right around the time either:

A. People run out of money

B. People stop running around screaming OBAMA!!!! OMFGWTFBBQ!!!!

C. People have their needs saturated, sorta.

Whichever comes first....

Man am I really glad I bought three lowers in the group buy. I needed three more ARs like another hole in my head, but now....

By the way, stay tuned......

The "Sledgehammer" is coming..........[devil2]

It all depends. You appear to be in MA which means any rifle you build needs to be ban compliant anyway, so unless the not yet conceived "new ban" is worse then the '94 ban nothing will likely change for those of us in MA. If in fact the new ban completely bans EBR's then maybe your stripped lower would be a paperweight depending on the wording/interpretation of the law. Really it is a little early to panic, until any actual legislation hits the floor of the house there is no way to tell. Just my .02 someone else has a different opinion I'm sure.

thanks. I was just thinking worst-case that all NEW AR's would be banned. i.e. if you had just a stripped lower, you couldn't build it post-ban.

will stripped lowers survive a new ban?

Depends on your definition of survive. In the 94 ban they survived by being a post-ban lower. I also had someone say if it was purchased from an FFL as a stripped lower it was a post-ban no matter what. I don't believe that, nor have I gone to try to confirm it.

Speculating about legislation that hasn't been written yet, let alone introduced, is just that -- speculation.

The '94 ban distinguishes between a lower and a rifle. You must have had a complete rifle prior to the '94 ban date and not simply a lower. This begs the question can/should I register a rifle after building one from a lower? maybe file an FA10 with a non-zero barrel length...

I don't think it matters since the '94 ban went by what the manufacturers sent it out as,not what a consumer built it into.

But, it wouldn't hurt to file an FA10 and tell the state you built a rifle before any ban is enacted.I guess living in MA with FA10's might be a good thing in THIS ONE SCENARIO.

so you're saying file an FA-10 for a stripped lower as if it were a complete rifle? That might be a safeguard?

Ok. I've never seen an FA-10, but is barrel length and specs a required field on the form? For this you would assume 16" and fudge the rest?

Barrel length is on the form. I'm not sure what you mean by "specs." The form also includes caliber and finish.

Yes, that's what I was thinking, place an order for upper and list those specs on the FA-10.

Now I just need to see if my line on a lower can come through.
