So I ordered a custom barrel and forgot to include fluting in my order. She’s a porker profile and it’s not a competition barrel.

Does anybody have a recommendation for a shop that offers fluting in either MA or NH? I know of various places online, but I’d rather not ship this thing.

Can you not contact the place making the barrel and get them to amend the order to include the fluting? I would think that any place doing custom barrels wouldn't have an issue with someone reaching out and wanting to spend MORE money with them on an order.

I’m assuming you already got the barrel and that’s why you’re not asking the custom barrel supplier to just add the work?

Try reaching out to these guys

He mentioned “local”

There are plenty of well know shops like LRI that I’d choose if shipping is in play

Thanks for the input everyone.

Yes, unfortunately the barrel is at my house 🫤 No way to have my order modified.

Can you sell it for what you have in it and order another one? Or can original manufacturer flute it for extra $? That way if the barrel does not shoot as expected after fluting, you won't have two shops blaming each other while you are SOL.

Selling it would be at a severe loss. It’s an inline .45 muzzle loader using the arrowhead rifle breech plug for rifle primers, threaded for a Zermatt TL3 shouldered prefit. The number of people interested in it in the country is probably single digits.

But yeah, I may just have to reach back out to the barrel maker and suck up the shipping.

Run it the way it is. Fluting doesn’t reduce as much weight as most think. Another option have it cut down and recrowned?

Problem with running it as is, is that it’s a 5.2lb barrel and it’s for hunting. 23” because it’s a muzzle loader barrel, so I’d worry that chopping it shorter will drastically reduce velocity. As it stands the barrel is nearly half the weight of the entire rifle (including optic).

It’s chunky enough that I should be able to get some rather deep flutes, but I may just see about having it reprofiled.

Having it reprofiled is a great idea. I don't think shipping will be much
