So I'm looking for a multi-tool that I can use for just about everything. Screw driver, bottle opener, scissors, small saw, et. al Anyone have one they can recommend? I have a few laying around that are really low quality (you know, the sale items at home depot for 9.99 type thing) but I'm looking for something that I would keep in a molle pouch that will last for a long time.

The Leathermans are decent quality
This. they make one with an AR tool now too, called the Mut. Expensive but worth it IMHO. I have about 3 Leatherman and love them.

Three features set the MUT apart from other weapon maintenance tools: Bolt overide tool that grabs the leading edge of the bolt carrier and lets the shooter pull back the bolt to clear a jammed casing. Replaceable bronze carbon scraper wear it out and replace it without having to send the tool back in for service. Replaceable cord cutting blade - cut through 550 cord without even opening the tool.

I just got a Leatherman MUT, and love it. It has the usual pliers, blade, saw, strap cutter, bronze scraper, bottle opener, and some other stuff. Comes in a MOLLE pouch with a 1/2" wrench and a couple of screwdriver bits. It's a little heavy, but has a pocket clip, and sits in the leg pocket of my carharts just fine.

The leatherman Charge TTi is what I carry. I use the belt clip and attach it to my front pocket. Works great even with light shorts...don't even notice it's there. I have a similar leatherman that's all steel and I find it too heavy to carry without the belt pouch. With some shorts the belt pouch does not work. IMO the titanium version is worth the extra money.

The mid end leathermans are tops. Beat the crap out of a blast at sea doe 5years. No issues.

My personal wave gen 1 had some problems, then lost it.

Gerber's and sog's just feel funny to me.

When you have used a leatherman to snip a safety catch zip tie on the rail of a ship in the southern ocean for over 400 full depth profiles over 7 years and never had it fail... You tend to like the dang things...

I had no idea that Leatherman had so many models now. I've had my Wave for a dozen years. I bought it for use when sailing and I've put hundreds of racing miles under the keel with it on my belt. Looks almost like new. I was thinking of buying a new one just to live in my range bag. I guess I'll have to research all these new models.

The one I use all the time is old too yeah. It was a gift from my cousin for being a junior usher for his wedding in like 2001. Flair, I believe it was one of their first. Been fine for me.

Understatement of the year, IMHO. I have a Leatherman Wave that is going strong after 13+ years. It almost immediately replaced my Swiss Champ, which had been my EDC utility knife. The only wear it shows is some dulling on the end of the serrated blade from being dragged across concrete too many times while cutting up cardboard boxes(stupid town recycling rules).

The only caveat I place on Leatherman tools is that you shouldn't buy the MUT Ord unless you have legitimate need; otherwise you'll have a very expensive toy that you hardly ever use. Although, sure, it's cool having a knife with a C-4 detonator plug...

I just picked up a SOG power assist. It is nice that i can open and close it one handed and deploy 2 blades with one hand as well. With the gear drive system it gives you twice as much gripping force at the tip than what is applied by your hand. All tools lock in place as well.

+1 for the Leatherman. I've have used the Wave ever since they came out and have returned it twice (pliers tip once, screwdriver blade once). Each time it was replaced under 100% warranty with a new one no questions asked. Leatherman has a form on their web page to fill out, print, and send with a damaged unit. Warranty returns are very painless and quick.
