Blew up my 340PD...

When i googled S&W 340PD i got this as a first link, which can't be good, can it?

Thanks for posting that Madball. My pictures are NOT that clear, so I won't bother putting them up. My gun has damage in the same places, but it's worse than the gun in the pictures.

S & W was a pleasure to deal with today, as usual. Hopefully it won't take too long to get a replacement back from them.

Lemme know if ya wanna sue!

My beloved Black Betty (S&W 340PD) is out of commision. Shooting factory loaded .357 magnum Saturday, she done 'blowd up! [shocked]

Thankfully, nobody was hurt when it happened.

Sorry for your loss, and I'm glad you are O.K.

Sounds to me like you were actually one shot away from blowing up the gun! Good thing you figured it out before it became a catastrophic failure!

My pleasure. Good to hear everything will work out, except for the flinch when you shoot the new one [wink]

Sorry to hear about the gun, but also very glad no one was hurt.

Very different experience, but I had my S&W Model 500 squib once. The scariest thing I've experienced with a gun. I'm holding it down range counting to thirty praying the thing doesn't go off suddenly.

Only time I have ever taken a loaded gun off the range. While the bullet was fully in the barrel, the primer had forced out of the back of the round so I could not disengage the cylender to unload the revolver. At least it's a S&W and can't accidently fire if you can't rotate the cylender.

When I finally managed to get the cylender open, I had to literally hammer the bullet out of the barrel with a patched 50cal jag on a cleaning rod.

My 340PD is full of 'ouch' even when I'm shooting 135 gr. .38 special +P gold dots...

The pain is not as bad as when I shot a few .357 magnum rds thru it, but I still do a lot of flinching and I am rarely masochistic enough to take more than 5 shots with it during a session at the range.

It's not bad at all with the Corbon 110 gr. DPX .38 special +P ammo, but that stuff is too expensive for me to practice with...

I just got my 340 M&P back from S&W this afternoon. I was having trouble opening the cylinder -- it was so bad I actually had to prop the cylinder against a solid table and push the frame of the gun with both hands to open it. The invoice said "Repaired Yoke", so I'm not sure what I did to it, but it has at least 2K of hot .357 through it since I bought it last January.

It's great to have it back, I forgot how spoiled I am having this thing sitting in my pocket at all times when I'm around the house and almost forgetting its there.

Glad you got yours back. I had a problem with it about 4 years ago that resulted in a "repaired yoke" fix from S&W, & it was fine up until recently.

I should have mine back within a few days too. I got spoiled carrying it around comfortably all day, & I can't wait to get it back.
