I have searched but have not been able to locate a direct comparison of these two clubs. I have young children and thus would only be using the indoor range after hours. I believe both have 24x7 access. Which facility has the better indoor range. Which would you recommend for someone in my situation? I am leaning towards Hanson as they will allow me to pay an additional $75 if I cannot put in the hours. Many thanks.

Braintree has two 15 lane indoor ranges open 24/7 with your badge. Haven't seen one better. Their outdoor facility usn't awesome, and they now require an RO to be present to use it, which has been hit or miss.

i would go with the one that is closer to you if all need it for is indoor use.i would say indoor in braintree in much better then hanson, but who really cares
then ,a place to shoot is a place to shoot.

The major drawback to the indoor range at Hanson is that you must place all targets at the 50' line. This is much too far for many types of defensive drills.

I've never been to Braintree But I hear the indoor facilities are better. The requirement that a RO be present at the outdoor range would be troubling to me as I work a four day week and often shoot on my week day off. I've heard that they are often not present. YMMV.

look into holbrook, nice club. indoor range is average,i would say.
no range officer needed at all,any time !!! i do most of my shooting
at night (late) or before work(very early). 24/7. it is kind of creepy
shooting all alone in the middle of the night !!

Thanks to all for your feedback. I was originally interested in Holbrook but the extensive initiation concerns me. It would take me quite a bit to get the required signatures.

Braintree has two indoor ranges, targets no closer than 33 feet. One of the indoor ranges will ALWAYS be accessible. There are no hours to put in - the fees are the fees, once you pay them you're good to go. There is a Friday night junior's rifle team if your kids would like to shoot socially.

ROs are necessary to shoot outdoors so it can be tricky if you want to shoot outside and calling ahead is always a good idea.

Can't comment on Hanson.

Not quite right.

Newer indoor range is 15 lanes, while the older indoor range is only 8 lanes.

Newer range has HEPA filtration, which means that you don't inhale/ingest crud from unburnt powder, etc. Much healthier environment. Only similar range I have seen is at S&W Shooting Center. Not sure if AFS has HEPA system or not.

Older indoor range is scheduled for improvements in the ventilation system to take place in 2010.

Nicole nicely covered the rest of this.

I should introduce you to my first gun club! I used to be blowing black crud out of my nose for 3 days after each shooting session and I was the ONLY shooter present in a 16 lane indoor range (they only allowed lead bullets and 50' minimum distance). That led me to REALLY love BR&P's indoor range! TTBOMK, my first club still hasn't improved the range ventilation since I left there in 2000. [thinking]
