I bought out a firearms estate some time ago. In the lot I found a box of ammo 88 Mauser (pictured on left). However, I found another box that I am unable to identify. Can anyone help identify it?
Whatever it turns out to be, if it was manufactured in 1900, it doubtless has corrosive priming (potassium clhoride vs. lead stiphnate), so if you shoot it you're going to have to really clean the rifle well.
Looks like "packed on April 18, 1900", and loaded with primers
from 1899.
I've sent a link to a German collector and asked him for info he may have.
Stay tuned.
Definitely M88 ammo.
I've got feedback from a collector saying he couldn't identify more than I did.
Here's a pic of a package from the same month/year, just a better
readable print http://www.hunt101.com/img/524534.jpg
I'm waiting on feedback from another collector re the manufacturer.
Can you give us the headstamp from a round of the open package ?
