Can Question

Is that utility run by a government? It has to be a government issued document or even a document from a government website with your name and residence address (see instructions to question 26.b on 4473).

Can you get Maine resident CCW when you reside there, if it shows the address?

I mean, even a library card or printout with your name and address should technically work, if library is run by a state/county/city. You should definitely do this option, for the laughs, if it checks out. 🤣
Ahh I overlooked the “government” piece. His electric bill is from central Maine power so that rules out that option.

Trusts still have good benefits and I’m glad I have all my items in my trust. For me it’s simple because it’s myself and my wife as responsible parties. We both need to have our photo and fingerprints in the system when buying things but that’s very easy. (This is based on the current ATF requirements).

I can amend my trust at any given time. As the settlor I can add or remove people anytime and all it requires if filling out the fillable form I have and having it notarized which my town hall does for free. This included beneficiaries or other co-trustees who would then be responsible parties.

I can have my kids or anyone I want as beneficiaries and assign items to them they would get if I die.

If or when I die, I’m no longer concerned but all my items will be able to be taken into possession and passed easily.

With a “individual” style option, anything you do would require an additional $200 transfer. The only option that doesn’t have that fee is if you die and you actually have a will dictating specific items and who they would pass to. It’s amazing how many people don’t have a will or even if they do, they don’t keep it updated.

Filing as an individual is simple and easy for YOU by yourself if you plan on being alone forever, but a trust allows changes as your life changes which are very easy to do.

Yea, compared to the years of oppression in MA, ME certainly did you dirtier! 🤣
Even though non res CCW would probably be easy to get and serve you just as well?

On a serious note - great data point! Maybe @DW357 's dad lives in one of the towns that issue resident CCW directly without MSP and he might have a different outcome if he wants to try this first.

I originally wanted it for legally carrying in state and national parks, which I used frequently.
Ended up ignoring the laws in those places instead.

I figured it was the reason, but non resident CCW works just as well for that, no?

I have read that the ATF considers you a resident of a state if you have a real estate tax bill in your name, and a utility bill in your name.

I'm sure you could ask the town and utility company to add your name to the bill.
If you can provide proof of residence, you can go to the NH RMV and get a NH drivers’ license. Done. A tax bill or utility bill with your name and address should suffice in NH RMV.

Yes, I could. But I still spend a lot of time in Mass, and getting a non resident LTC that only lasts a year, is a pain in the ass.
