Carry gun. What do you carry?

When wearing heavier clothing a Walther P99 in a regular Crossbreed IWB or with the warmer weather an S&W 442 in a Desantis nemesis pocket holster.

I'm not picky. I have S+W M+P 40 cal. Winter is easy I wear the IWB holster on the right side covered by a Large Carhartt hoody so I feel like quick draw Mcgraw. Summer time requires large t-shirts or whatever and its slightly uncomfortable but I wear it inside the front of the waist band. I'm gonna snatch up a small revolver for a little more convenience.

Depends on the day and where I'm going and how I feel.

S&W 442 - hides nice but can't shoot accurately
S&W CS9 - Shoots great but sticks a bit in concealment
Glock 27 - Shoots great hides ok but the draw is slow as there isn't much grip for me to grab.

For winter, I like my M&P .40c with Crimson Trace laser. It's too big for the summer, so I'm looking for a Kahr PM9...also will have a CT laser.

Currently a Taurus 85.

The glock 26 was a great gun. I just feel its too big for summer carry, but too small for winter carry.

I picked the Taurus up just to toss in my pocket during the summer. When the colder months come around
I'll be in the market for a glock 19/23 or a sig 239. Something that will offer a better grip and longer
site radius then the 26.

G19 w/ 2 15 rd mags of Cor-bon [smile]

You know that the G19 will accept the G17 mags, they just stick out of the mag well a little further; a couple extra rounds in a spare mag is never a bad thing.

Nothing, S&W has my PPS cause it broke... [angry]

You don't have any other handguns you could carry?

Here's a nifty bit of info from this thread:

WEAPON CHOICE.

Predominately handguns were used in the assaults on officers and all but one were obtained illegally, usually in street transactions or in thefts. In contrast to media myth, none of the firearms in the study was obtained from gun shows. What was available "was the overriding factor in weapon choice," the report says. Only 1 offender hand-picked a particular gun "because he felt it would do the most damage to a human being."

Carry whatever you can get, it works fine for the criminals. [wink]

I assume you are not carrying the Steel Hawk bullets.

I had to look that up to figure out what you meant, I'm not sure if you're joking, but I've said it before and I'll say it again...a gun's a gun, a bullet's a bullet. If all I had was FMJ or Extreme Shock Air Freedom ammo or some old reloads, I'd load them up and carry away.

Exactly.. right now I have mixed ammo in the carry. Both feed well from testing but for some reason I loose carry rounds going hot/cold at IDPA events...

Unless you're drowning or on fire, there's no such thing as too much ammunition.

Looks like it's time to do some shopping, huh? [wink]

Mike,
I carried a Glock 36 but found that I could not relaibly conceal it at all times. I used a S&W 642 for a while and finally opted for the Kahr PM-9. I found that I obtained better accuracy with the Kahr PM-9 than the S&W 642. Even with a med-large hand I found that I could easilly control the Kahr with my pinky under the mag. I probably should have tried a different grip on the 642.
Looking into a Ruger LCR .38 SPL
Or an S&W 642 PD

Any suggestions would be helpful

I shot the Ruger LCR .38 SPL with +P loads today. Quite a hand-full for a small gun.

Thanks, Mike

Yup I'm fully aware of this. I do use G17 mags but not for my EDC. They reside in my gun belt for use there. I like that they are extended since it makes pinching your finger a lot less likely when slamming the mag inside the gun. However, If I can't get it dont with a total of 45 rds then i have a lot bigger problems.

Well actually, if 45 rounds doesn't get it done, you don't have big problems...you'll die. [wink]

My personal new favorite is a Glock 33 in a CrossBreed SuperTuck holster. I have the +1 mags, so it lets you carry 10+1 total. Very light, compact, comfortable, and with the SuperTuck I can't even tell it's on me. Very comfortable and accurate for such a smaller pistol. The best thing I like is being able to use either a .40 or .357 in a nice carry gun!

For the laser I went with the LaserMax and it works great. The switch is an easy on (ambidextrous) where you place your index finger safely, it doesn't get blocked like the CT can, it never needs to be adjusted, and it pulses (making it easier to find and track).

You can also carry 13 or 15 round mags with it as spares...a 13 round mag is just about the same size as the +1 extension in my experience.

I might be wrong but I thought there were no pre-ban high cap .357 sig glock mags. since the .357 Glock was introduced in 1998 and pre-ban mags need to be from 13 SEP 1994 or earlier. But I am no expert so I would wait for confirmation on this before taking my word as law.

The .357 Glock frames were first imported into the US in 1997, which was right before Glock changed to 3rd gen frames; this is why the few 2nd gen .357 Glock models are very rare. (An interesting side note, the first run of G31's have ".357 SIG" stamped on the slide and barrel, while all the Glock .357 pistols made after that first run only say ".357"...I don't think Glock like's putting other brand names anywhere on their guns [laugh]).

The Glock legal department has said that if a mag doesn't have "LE/military restricted" markings or the ambi mag notch then it's pre-ban, and I know that Glock made .357 high caps without either of those. Remember that even though the .357 SIG Glocks were first being produced in 1996/1997 by Glock, the round itself was developed in 1994 by Sig Sauer. When Smith & Wesson developed the .40 S&W in 1990 Glock beat them to the punch and put out a gun to chamber it (the G22) before they did. With the AWB looming ahead of everyone in 1994 and Glock's history of cartridge sharking, it wouldn't surprise me in the least to learn that they had churned out some high cap .357 SIG Glock mags before the ban. It would've been easy for them to do too; the only difference between the .357 and .40 Glock mags is the caliber markings at the top and the follower.

But if you were still worried, you can also load .40 S&W Glock magazines with .357 SIG ammo; I've done this before, everything fed fine, but the bullets wouldn't index correctly when you looked at the back of the magazine due to the slightly different angle of .40 S&W and .357 SIG followers in Glock mags.

The short answer is that it is possible to have Mass. legal 13 round mags in a .357 SIG Glock. [grin]
