Coleman Lanterns

Anyone collecting Coleman Lanterns? Got my first one at 13 years old when I was in Scouts. My parents got it for me with Green Stamps. Fifty eight years later it still works. Bought these two for $10 for the pair. Came from a BSA troop. Apparently Boy Scouts only allow propane now.

Have 4 including a red single mantle, with a Coleman safe on the bottom , That I bought in the 70’s, Plus it has a flint striker from the late seventies. 3 of them in protective cases. Also have a two burner stove, with a wind screen, hardly been used.

They only allow propane now? Haven't heard that, and we had a white gas one in scout camp this summer. Rechargeable/LED ones seem to be the direction things are headed though. Still love the old school coleman lanterns and stoves though.

When hurricane Irene came through, I was running propane, white gas, kerosene lamps, candles, and battery-powered illumination.

Diversity is strength?

Whenever I could score a nice Coleman (any fuel) at an estate or yard sale cheap, it came home.


For sentimental reasons, I prefer vintage kerosene lamps, from when they were an appliance, not an accent piece.

I have a '73 Coleman military lantern that goes on every camping trip with me. Noisy! But dead reliable

For sentimental reasons, I prefer vintage kerosene lamps, from when they were an appliance, not an accent piece.

I keep a working Aladdin model 11 and spare mantles on hand. Why not both appliance and accent piece?

I'm working on getting a 1947 Coleman 530 this week. I really want one of these

I love my Aladdin. As bright as a Coleman and totally silent. Before I got a generator, it came out for ever power outage.

I sold one in great condition in original box from 1963 for $200.00, only to find out later it is valued much higher.

I've got 2 of the Colemans, but not "collecting" them. They are what I use for camping or power outages. I also have oil lamps (sort of "decorative" style), and some of those "hurricane" oil lamps. Not a collection though. The Colemans stay stored away with the camping gear (a stove is in there, too). The oil lamps are on the mantle on the porch, a little dusty, just waiting to be pressed into use.

I just set the '73 mil lantern up with a flint ignitor. Works like a charm. It's nice to be self contained

I finally snagged one of these - a Coleman 530 A47 (1st half of 1947 production) stove to match the sound of the military lantern - very loud. I gave it a good rinse and am running it on gasoline at the moment. I'll slosh that a bit more, drain and probably use white gas in the future.

I know, not a lantern!

Got a new one today for "lightweight" camping. It's just under the size of a Nalgene bottle, 9" x 4". It seems to work really well! 1983 model but it really doesn't look used, possibly lit once or twice. It came with a hard case so yeah, not exactly lightweight but better than my coleman gi lantern. It will go well with my 530 stove for canoe trips
