Decent carry gun with pre-ban mags available?

Want a new carry gun without the Glock prices? Get a S&W M&P45c, great gun and is MA Compliant. Just be prepared to install the Apex DAEK kit. It's G19 sized and carries well.

Your still ending up at$650 with the kit. And it's resale value is crap.

I think the guns like the Sig P226 or P220 which have double/single action are probably the best for you if you want a safety. The safety is simply the long hard trigger pull required to cock the hammer, and then subsequence shots are much lighter.

The Beretta 92 is DA/SA, but has a large fat grip. Not so good for concealed carry I think.

The Sig P226 and P220 (and the compact versions) are pretty heavy guns. I don't know if there is a polymer gun which weighs less but takes P226 mags to get high cap.

A gen2 glock (or newer depending on who you buy it from) or a Beretta 92. I carry a Beretta 92fs every day and there are pre-bans around for it. They had a box of 40 or so at Four Seasons last year. I think they were charging $15 bucks a piece, if I remember correctly. The beretta does have an external safety, if that's what is really important to you. It can be disconnected during a draw and present really, and not too cumbersome.

Someone earlier mentioned something along the lines that it's all about personal feel. This is 100% true! Go window shopping, talk to friends, and shoot a few different models before you buy anything. If I had to recommend anything, it would have to be the Glock 19/23. You can conceal it, and go happy at the range.

Glocks are very common in there, you may want to start a new tread, someone may let you shoot few rounds in different Gen & models, to see which one fits you best.

While I would love a Glock 19, It isn't readily available in MA (to my knowledge) and the ones that are, are Gen 2/ Gen 3 (if you are lucky). I'd also like an external safety, as this is my first handgun.

Sliderlock or some shit will fix that safety issue thing.

So in other words, here is the criteria I am following for:

1. Able to be carried concealed.
2. Has preban mags available.
3. Decent quality.
4. External safety (as this is my first handgun)

As a novice shooter i would suggest looking at a Ruger SR9C. It has a very good trigger, slightly smaller than a G19, ambidextrous safety, loaded chamber indicator but 10 round magazines in Mass.

As any instructor will tell you though. A safety (and loaded chamber indicator ) is a mechanical device and can fail.

I think making it a absolute requirement for high caps in a carry gun in overrated. With 10 in the gun and another magazine or two you should be covered. If not then you are doing something wrong or are in a situation that you should have brought a rifle to.[smile]

Right now I am carrying a G26 with spare G17 mags.

Worry less about pre-ban... And get a Smith & Wesson SHIELD in 9mm it is a great gun, it should fit your hand well. It is easy to conceal and accurate enough to get quite proficient with.

Go to Mass Firearms School in Holliston and rent one. I know you will like it so much you will buy one.
