Does anyone have the Savage Model 116FXP3 or Savage Model 110GXP3?

I'm planning on getting one of them later this week in 30-06. The only differences I can find are the stock (wood vs. synthetic), the barrel (blued vs. stainless), and a slight price increase for the 116.

Does anyone have either? If so, I'd love to hear your critical feedback.

I prefer the stainless, but in a previous discussion it sounded like Savage sythetic stocks were pretty crappy.

Thanks,

I think it's just a matter of taste. Of the two I like the synthetic/stainless myself. You can't go wrong with either though?

What is the max effective range of a 30-06 anyways?

I've owned 2 Savage 110's, 1 in 300-06 and the other in 22-250 (was set up with a bi-pod and a 6-24x scope)

Both were Synthetic stocks, blue'd barrels. 22-250 had a hvy bull barrel.
Had to sell both for $$$ to eat and have a roof over my head.

30-06 - light, reliable but bit to much kick for me as I very much went from shooting a .22RF to 30-06, no inbetween cartridges.

22-250 - Sweetest shooting rifle out of the box I have ever owned. Was having quarter sized groupings out of the box w/ Hornady V-Max ammo.

Only complaint with the savage's I've owned was the trigger pull, kind of on the high side Got the 22-250 trigger redone and it was a sweet shooting rifle, need to get another one.

I guess Savage has solved the trigger-trouble by creating their new Accu-trigger (or something like that, anyway).

I tried it a AAA Guns in West Springfield and it was sweeeet. Easily adjustable via a screw in the trigger guard.

At the lightest, maybe two pounds or so, and no overtravel, no creep.
