I was in a shop today that had a 12g 'Encore' shotgun that interested me. I really liked the feel and look of it and the price was not too high. I've been looking for an Rem 870 or Moss 590

I can't find any info on it though. I'm guessing it was made by T/C? but they no longer make it?

Any thoughts?

EDIT: Not Encore, ESCORT

Doh!!! yeah, that's it... no wonder I couldn't find anything. I was starting to doubt my google foo.

I know the going wisdom is to go for the 870 or 500, but I really liked the feel of this gun. Haven't found anything bad about it. Lot of "why would you get that when you can get an 870?" but nothing bad yet. I'll let it sit a week and see how I feel about then.

EDIT: actually, it was this one (click pic for info):

seems it is Turkish made by Hatsan: http://www.hatsan.com.tr/new_escort_aimguard_side_folding_stock.asp

The TV show 'Sighting In with Shooting USA' just did a piece on Legacy Sports and its owner last week. Maybe they'll replay it. It was pretty cool. Maybe it could give you a little insight.

I haven't shot one nor have I seen any at any shoots or in the field. Truthfully, I haven't even talked to an owner of one. I've only seen comments on boards on the web, so, I'm sorry I can't help.

I stick to the logic that an 870, used or new, is a can't miss investment. [wink] But, you are probably much more adventurous than I am.

I'm certain that you are 100% correct with that. But I do feel adventurous... maybe I need both?

I can definitely appreciate that. I am in need of a new Browning Gold and another BPS and Beretta 391 and a new Benelli SBEII and cordoba. Not that there'd be any functional overlap with what I already have or anything [smile]

What would you be using the escort for? Singular purpose or all-around utility gun? I'd be interested to see how they've turned out.
Legacy's Howa imports are solid. Maybe they have a good eye for value with these shotguns. There's so many Turkish value guns out now.

Well, if I got both this would just be a fun gun really. Maybe a truck gun if I lived in another state. I don't hunt, so no needs there. I really should be investing in ammo... not buying extra guns though.

I have no experience with them either, but I couldn't find much in a search downing them. Turkey has a pretty long history of firearms production and though I can;t remember the name, one of the nicest trap guns I have seen, (not that I have seen a ton) was made in Turkey.

My advice for what it's worth is that if you like the feel of it - buy it. Even though the Remington 870 is a popular and prolific shotgun, mine was an absolute dud, (lemons happen).
