Exploding pagers

That's not really some mysterious technology. Your cell phone is always pinging off cell towers, so you are logged into your provider's network. They've got logs of which phones were pinging off of which towers.
Right. That's why it's existing technology.

My observation is more that it's only a matter of time before some terrorist/hacker/windup leverages that to send a mass page to the attendees of an event with the intent to incite terror while everyone tries to escape the fictional threat.

How would YOU react if suddenly everyone around you gets a threat message and everyone is running for the exit?

No boots on the ground, I’d expect. We’re already in it up to our ass, otherwise.

If Harris is elected, China-Russia-Iran-North Korea would probably step on us even harder. If we get dragged in now, that’s maybe for the better.
That has been the neocon argument to stir up sh*t forever.

I see that as unlikely. There are things that I worry about and things that I don't. That's not something that I worry about.

And that's why I said it as a not very inflammatory observation, not:

OMG!!! WHAT IF TERRORISTS SEND MASS PAGES TO RALLY ATTENDEES?! [laugh]

I'm just Pipes, not Alex Jones. I'm not losing sleep either.

Some slightly good news.
Post-COVID the U.S. chip manufacturers have gotten serious about having more chip fabs on U.S. soil. I just met with some Texas Instruments sales guys. Apparently having on-shore manufacturing is an issue with guys like me who use their chips. Their presentation boasted about the chips being made on-shore and that they have fabs in several states. A huge amount is still made in Taiwan and China, but the trend is in the right direction.
They've got a fab up here in ME. I used to be a janitor there back in college. Imagine being a janitor in a class 100 facility.🤣

The technology exists to scan a place such as an arena / rally / etc and identify cell phones present. The borg used this to identify victims for the J6 Crusade.

I wonder how long before terrorists with hacker skills figure out how to mass-sms all the cells found with a message designed to incite terror. The pandemonium would be worse than ... well ok, almost as bad as setting off a bunch of charges in pagers.
Many if not all were advised to not bring their cell phones like antifa advises.
Facial recognition software filled in for it.

My wife was a Process Engineer at a fab in Silicon Valley in the 1980s. They dressed some electricians in clean-room bunny suits and brought them into the fab to do some wiring. At break time, instead of them all getting out of the bunny suits, just one did and he brought the doughnuts into the fab clean room [rofl]

You have to plan your bathroom breaks like 30 minutes in advance

I get called a lot of things I don’t understand, but usually by progressives - now I’m a neocon, homophobic, misogynistic, xenophobe with low education and less economic output ;-)

See? This is the beauty of tactics like these. It becomes a kind of placebo effect: ANYTHING in that region that has any problems now? They're going to assume Mossad snapped its fingers and made it happen.

Brilliant, really. Diabolical.

This will be in the 2nd Edition of this 2019 book on Israel’s best spy adventures.

"Dagan and his men continually devised new methods for finding and disposing of these wanted Palestinians. One tactic was to ambush them in brothels. Another was to hide in trees in the citrus groves when they knew that terrorists were planning to meet there, communicating by pulling on fishing cord stretched out between them in order to maintain absolute silence. When the terrorists turned up, they were all shot dead. They also frequently used a Palestinian collaborator to sell booby-trapped grenades to the Palestine Liberation Army. The fuses would be clipped from the usual three-second delay to a half-second, ensuring that whoever used them would blow himself up. And on one occasion, borrowing from Operation Mincemeat, a British World War II ploy, Dagan pretended to be a corpse and was carried by his comrades—two of them Palestinian collaborators and the others disguised as Arabs—into a terrorist hideout. Once inside, they killed everyone."

Going forward, all nations will have to examine their supply chain safety. The Baofeng question isn’t a joke. The world is turning into a gigantic Mexican standoff, and only supply chain that you can trust is within your own soil.
This was kind of inevitable. I am a simple man, but you don't have to hit me over the head with a tire iron for me to understand that when a nation stops manufacturing almost everything, to save a buck, and becomes dependent on other nations with whom they are often in conflict with, sooner or later... that is gonna bite you in the ass.
Especially when you consider that everything that is produced in China, is in some way shape or form, controlled by the CCP.
Hell, forget cell phones and pagers, they could spray poisons on clothing that activates at body temp, and kill thousands before we figured it out.., with one shipment of Levis... or Lulu Lemons... Think about that... the fattys would die first because they heat up faster...all the fat chicks in yoga pants...poof.

Or create a chip that will allow a remote user to gain control of a vehicle. Accelerate every late model Kia at top speed.... and disable the breaks. I saw it in a movie.. but it was Teslas. As someone who has a signifigant commute, I hope it's Kia. Especially Tellurides. Who the f*** buys a $70,000 Kia? I bet you can guess who.

Maybe the silver lining in all of this will be all the fat chicks are gone, as well as Kia drivers, and we will finally bring manufacturing and manufacturing jobs, back where they belong.

Effective immediately: Following the directive received from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation of the Republic of Lebanon, all passengers flying from Beirut Rafic Harirl International Airport (BEY) are prohibited from carrying pagers and walkie-talkies on board flights. The ban applies to both checked and carry-on luggage, as well as cargo, and will be enforced until further notice.

I agree with you on fat chicks, but the whole supply chain and globalization genie won’t go back in the bottle without inflicting heavy tolls. Chips may be a unique commodity, then maybe it’s not, because it’s a product that requires widespread cooperation beyond national borders: ASML for example, almost monopolizes on EUV machines. Yes, Netherlands is an ally, so is Japan, but as you widen the circle, some players start to take on a shade of gray.

Article from the New York Times News Service which says that the Israelis manufactured the pagers through a front company rather than intercepting them in transit. This theory has been put forward before, and I still do not consider it totally confirmed, but it does seem most likely. Considering the number of pagers, modifying them during transit seems logistically difficult.

Other articles have said that the modified pagers were so cleanly done that they were not detectable even if they were opened up and inspected inside. And keep in mind, it takes more than just a modified battery. There was almost certainly custom firmware or electronics required to trigger the explosive. So having them modified during manufacturing does seem likely.

Makes you wonder if Mosad pulled something like this to take out Iranian president’s helicopter on May.
That sounded a lot more like VFR into IFR conditions. IIRC, visibility was quite poor and they were flying an old Russian helicopter. Instrument flying in a helicopter is apparently far more difficult than instrument flying in a fixed wing aircraft, and I’m sure it is a lot more difficult in an old Soviet era design than a modern western helicopter.

In other words, that crash was almost certainly pilot error.
