First Firearm?

My first gun was a Ruger 10/22. My first gun purchase was a Ruger SR9. It all comes down to what you are going to use it for, how much you have to spend, and what feels good in your hand. Make sure you get something that you can afford to shoot, because once you start, the ammo disappears quickly.

I would recommend a .22 caliber handgun that can be converted to a larger caliber. A lot of the major manufacturers provide this configuration. I shot a SIG p220 chambered in .22 cal. for a couple of years. Put about 5,000 rounds through it, allowing me to get comfortable with the proper grip and stance at a fraction of the ammo cost of a full sized handgun. I learned the basics in this manner. You can get a used Sig P220 chambered in .22 for about $450. Then after you get comfortable and more confident you can get the .45 conversion kit for another $350 or so. I recently sold the Sig and purchased a CZ 75 Shadow CTS long slide. Hope that helps.

My first handgun was a carry 25 derringer. I have since matured and am shooting my first "real" gun...a 9mm Browning Hi Power. First time it recoiled in my hand I fell in deep lust with the "big bang". I have since rethought my situation. I do believe my next "real gun" will be a nice 22lr just for fun and giggles on the range. You want to buy something you can afford to shoot. My 70 year old Browning was a fortunate hand me down. Now when I get ready to lay down my hard earned cash...I want a nice good bang for the buck and some good conversation round the counter at my local gun shop. :) But most important like everyone has already said. Buy something you can afford to feed. Cause if you like your new found hobby, you will shell out some cash at every given opp.
