Good day to hit the Range

That's awesome that you have that and good for you. You seem to get quite a bit of use out of it.
Thanks, I schedule range time just like for doing laundry, grocery shopping, or mowing the lawn.

It doesn't always work out (like today) , but scheduling it helps.

I know a guy who has a camper, a big boat, jet skis, and OHRVs - he rarely uses them.

Got to make the expense of my ranges and the surrounding property worth it.

Hit it today to dial in my ghetto beater PSA build and it was good and bad

The good is it literally took me 10 rounds to dial it in from 50 yards the bad is I had 3 failure to feed and 1 failure to eject.

The ammo was Winchester 55g fmj that I've shot several thousand rounds through my higher end builds without any issues, and the mag is an old Colt that I've used for years.

I got a brand new Tool craft BCG for Christmas and it was the first I've used it but otherwise the rifle was very accurate hitting steel at 100 yards and quick 5 round mag dumps and reloads at 50 yards

I'm happy with it but will see how it runs after get more rounds through it

Switched out my carry gun for its clone.

The gun I've been carrying and shooting for the last year is going to be detail disassembled, cleaned, lubed, then stored as a backup at classes until it becomes the primary again in 2026.

Shot this cold with my carry ammo that has exceeded the number of chamberings that I'm comfortable with: four. They all functioned properly.

First round from WHO went a little low. :(

Spent the remaining time practicing WHO slow-fire and WHO timed-fire.

Amazing what a bit of warm up can do - no?

Sunday gun day. Found out that the indoor range allows .300BLK with subsonics, so I dusted off the upper I made umpteen years ago and never shot. ~20yards through an un-sighted in Aimpoint PRO:
The spiral powder marks makes me think that that is a lot closer than ~20yards. 🤔

Wow I actually made it out to the range since the fall. Dusted off the Hungarian SA-85M by shooting 105 rounds of PPU brass x39 ammo. I think this ammo is spicy compared to my steel case ammo as I was getting severe trigger slap on my finger. Never noticed this before with steel case ammo. Then again I haven’t shot the gun in over a year.

Then I dusted off the Winchester M1 carbine by shooting some lake city ammo I got on clips and bandoleers. I’ve never used clips before and realized I forgot to bring one of the included tools to the range so I had to manually pull the rounds off the clips 😂
Ran well and was accurate on my 8" steel plate at 60ish yards. IMG_7223.jpeg

Hit the bolt head on my steel plate with the AK so not sure how much longer that will hold. Will replace it once it completely falls out.

Shit two weekends in a row I made it to the range. Craziness. Had the whole range to myself which was great.

Shot the AR x39 SBR and the trusty Dan Wesson 357.

Target bolt finally let go. Will need to replace that at some point.

No pictures, just a quick trip to the range to try out my new-to-me HK P7, definitely different from other semi-autos. Recoil feels light, I'm shooting 147gr, but gun is also light and the hold is different with that squeeze cocker. I can see where they were coming from, light, thin, simple with no controls. Nothing to get hung up or slow you down and with no safety it's still 100% safe with one in the chamber, you're never going to snag that trigger on something and have it go off.

I found out just the other day there is now a US company making P7 M8s and M13s with a combination of left over HK parts and fully new production.
P7Pro | The Return of the P7

I love my P7

I soooooo wish I had them all back when they were “cheap”. Sigh.

Sunday gun day. Another trip to the Church of Blam, again with the .300 BLK at 12 yds. Some more stoppages, but all of them at the same point in each mag I tried (3rd to last) with different carbine buffers (regular and H), which leads me to think I should have replaced the springs on these old preban mags when I put in anti-tilt followers. C'est la vie, and off to Brownells.

Bonus: Sighting in a new Trijicon RCR on my M&P Metal. Awwwwesome sight. Just had to walk it up a little doing 5 round groups.

I came up with this meme for just such occasions [thumbsup]

Well I installed a Timney AK 3.5# trigger and hooooly f*** is that nice. Just like a crisp match AR trigger. Just clears the trigger guard lol.

BUT unfortunately in typical DW357 fashion 😂 , the trigger appears to be broken after 80 rounds. Trigger will not reset. Hammer is stuck in the down position. Need to do some research and reach out to Timney. Not thrilled as it was $160

Omg you have so much bad luck!

Sunday gunday. Sighted in the Aimpoint PRO I have on the .300BLK AR (the small left hand circle was this). Got a couple of Magpul 10 rounders that now work flawlessly, which is great. The replaced springs in my old aluminum mags were hit or miss, mostly miss. But I was able to chew out the center of the target with no fliers, so I'll call it a win. Then I ran some 124gr FMJs through my M&P with the brandy-new Trijicon RCR I put on it. Oh yeah, very nice. Once I made sure it was sighted in (small right hand circle) at 12 yards. Then I started in above the rifle shots. And on the second mag, the RCR flew off and hit me in the forehead. D'oh. The shipped screws are too short, apparently. The more you know. I was able to recover all the bits that flew off. Somehow the RCR ended up in the shooting bay to my left. 🤣
