Guide to gun rights in your Massachusetts town

I just renewed my LTC in Wayland. I've had an unrestricted class A for some time. I just picked up my new LTC A and it is still unrestricted.

  • 6/3 4PM I left message on the licensing officer's voicemail that I needed to make an appointment for a renewal.
  • 6/4 9AM The licensing officer returned my call and we agreed on a 10 AM appointment on 6/7.
  • 6/7 10AM The licensing officer finished his previous application/renewal appointment and brought me in exactly on time. I was literally out the door in 5 minutes.
  • 8/9 I received a call that my license was in.

Total time: 67 days.

While the overall time was long, it is my understanding that is due to issues at the state level. The Wayland PD licensing officer was truly great to deal with.

I renewed in Canton in the beginning of the year. Though listed in this sticky as black, you could get a Class A but their policy was always with restrictions such as "target" or "employment". This time Class A, no restrictions. I was informed that this was Canton's new policy for all.

Okay, I'm going to go make myself a drink and re-read your post just to make sure.

And next time I'm heading to Canton I'll wear my parka and gloves.

I can't imagine Berkowitz allowing this for the riff-raff!! Something strange must have happened in that town.

Applied for my very first Class A LTC in Petersham, must meet with the chief for the first one, but I was granted an Unrestricted Class A.
I would have to say with my experience so far Petersham is Green

Great news for Canton! Heading to the PD after work to see if they'll lift my restrictions
I've heard of others renewing after a year or 2, and going from a B to an A. Only part that sucks is that it takes another fee to renew.

And they can pry my fake smokes from my cold dead hands!

Anyone know if the list of red and green towns at the start of this thread has been updated recently? A friend is
considering moving to somewhere in the watertown, newton, waltham, (arlington?) area, and wanted to find the up to date info on whether an ALP LTC is likely in those and nearby towns.

I believe all of those towns are RED. Move somewhere else.

I think recently though some people here were licensed in Arlington ALP.

Arlington has been green for a long time. Look at t he beginning of the post. People are reporting that they hare actually having some luck in Newton now. I await some more data points on that before I get all excited.

Waltham is a very nice town, but red - your friend should only move to Waltham if they can live with a T&H restricted license. This is based on my recent personal experience and on pretty much every Waltham related update in this thread.

Yup, I would rule out Watertown as well. Some say it's much worse than Waltham.

This list is updated within 48 hours anytime reliable information is posted.

According to my instructor, Arlington is green but will likely (but not definitely) restrict you if you're under 25. My coworker applied 12 weeks ago and has not heard back.

Don't move to saugus. Wait time for your application appointment is at least february, and the actual approval could take as long as 6 months. Although it is green and you would likely get class A unrestricted on your first go.

Isn't Norwood now issuing LTC-A, No restrictions?

I saw that for the past three or so people who commented here. I did my renewal and it went great. It definitely deserves an upgrade to orange I think. Also, the new CLEO Brooks is a good guy per most (I think LenS said so as well).

I met Bill Brooks at a CMR hearing at MSP HQ a few years ago, he testified against the attempt to kill off all training, all juniors programs and all competitions in MA. He came across as a very pro-2A person and info here since he made Chief in Norwood has been very positive. I need to sit down with him at some point about a totally different matter, but the handful of times I stopped by he was out of the station.

ABINGTON UPDATE:

- my friend finally got his LTC. 13 weeks, no restrictions.

According to the PD, the paperwork was waiting for the state to do their part the entire time. So, either the state is moving really slow or the PD just holds on to the paperwork for a while.

Well, I haven't seen any posts coming out of Milton lately so I thought that I would throw my 2 cents in. At this point I am at 109 days which is about 15.5 weeks, and still waiting. This seems a bit excessive of a wait. I figured I would wait til the end of the month and if I haven't gotten anything by then, I will give a call to the local fuzz.

My wife and I had our appointments in Methuen this evening. Arrived 15 minutes early for a 6PM appointment for me and 6:30 for my wife. We were out the door by 6:15 for both of us. The LO stated in not so few words that they will be issuing unrestricted for the foreseeable future. They just see it as easier and less confusing.

Somerville - LTC A No restrictions. Maybe they are tending to lean more green nowadays? A friend got his LTC A here 2-3 years ago but had a S+H restriction on it. The interview process was laid back. I put ALP on the application with several other good reasons and the PD simply changed it to ALP when they entered it into the online form. All and all good experience.

*Note - I did take the CCW1 course at MFS prior to applying for my LTC. I figured it would help with the process as well as getting more training is always good.*

This is good. With a little more good news from them, I'll be changing them to green.
