Guide to gun rights in your Massachusetts town

Montague, When applied for my LTC, I was told by the police department to put "any lawful purpose" as my reason. My father was told the same when he had to renew his "lifetime" LTC a few years prior to my application. This was also for my first LTC application when I turned 21, no issues with the process at all.

An update that Melrose is still Green. Sgt. Gock (Sp?) took care of everything great. I wish they were available more frequently than random Tuesdays when he happens to be around only for this stuff but other than that issue no complaints at all. Seems like a good guy; professional and stern but still down to earth.

Student of mine got his LTC Class A "No Restrictions" in Medford. Took about 8 weeks, just arrived the mail today. He was a little shocked to say the least cause I told him don't expect "No Restrictions" in Medford. He filled out his application as "All lawful purposes". When I pressed him for details, he said that he wore his Allied Barton uniform to the interview when he got off work and they gave him a break since he was in the "security" business. He did not put anything in his application saying that LTC was job related. So I guess all you have to do to get LTC Class A no restrictions in Medford is to show up in security uniform and you are golden!

Update on Medford "No Restrictions". My student is now not working for Allied Barton, at the time I instructed him last summer he was with AB, he now works for Suffolk County Sheriffs office in corrections.

anyone know anything about the town of Norwood? Had my fingerprints and application done and now im waiting on an interview. Anyone have any idea what the interview is like first hand?

My info is a few years old, but they weren't inclined to give out unrestricted LTCs and made it very difficult on applicants. No personal experience there but I know a number of people from Norwood. One is an active member here and maybe can add something more recent.

Good luck.

Friend just got told to wait a year in Arlington for the restrictions to be lifted after his name appeared on a police report. He is going to appeal it, as the police report was from a few years back, and he was just mentioned as being there with a group when one member did something stupid. He did have to wait 3 full months for the license to come through at all though. They did say it wouldn't have been restricted if he hadn't been in that report.

In Amherst my buddies girlfriend had a quick turn around (35ish days I think) and no restrictions, I should be getting mine up here in a couple months and I expect it will be no different.

Newton MA is still red, when I lived there I was told they don't give unrestricted licenses.

Hamilton does have a new Chief, and he does issue Class A permits. My son, age 21, is a first time permit holder, and just got his Class A with no restrictions.

North Attleboro still GREEN!
Just picked up my LTC A no restrictions (first time) just stated All Lawful Purposes, very friendly and courteous.
Only took 36 days.

Dracut

[angry]I guess I picked the wrong town to retire. I own a home in dracut and plan to reitre after 30 years as a Federal Civil Servant. I'm in Florida right now and have a concealed permit. I really would like to bring my firearms with me.[sad2]

Holbrook is RED not green

Will someone please explain why Holbrook is listed as an easy(green) town when I was asked to produce 5 letters of reference??? That's right, you read correctly, they want 5 letters of reference.

Bold Green usually Issue "Class A" "All Lawful Purposes"

Bold Red May Issue and/or are difficult to obtain a "Class A" "All Lawful Purposes" usually give out restricted such as "Sport and Target"

Cities in Bold Black are almost Impossible or impossible to Obtain a "Class A" usually issue a "Class B" or "FID"

Cities in Blue are still awaiting member feedback at this time.

Cities in Orange have conflicting or inconsistent information or experiences.

The colors are in regards to what permit the town will issue, not actually about the requirements. Were you told you would not get "Restrictions:none" in Holbrook?

Welcome noob.

I understand your pain, but lets kick it down a notch. Though I think permits in general are BS, if all it takes is 5 letters.... then get going and get your LTC.

FWIW, 5 letters isn't exactly jumping through hoops. My town is requesting psychiatric evaluations to get a permit.

Hey Type,

Thanks for the warm welcome. I'm a total newbie to the app process. So, what town do you live in that's requesting psychiatric evaluations? Are you serious?

Lexington should be green, not blue.

I'm only one data point for my town, but I think it should be green. No hassles, not the fastest permit process in the world but they didn't give me any issues earlier this year.

Can't recall what website I was on but it was a map of MA, and the count of Firearms permits in each town. Lexington has 700 ish..
