Making the transition from revolver EDC to wanting another semi (just sold my Seecamp) for carry when the warmer weather arrives. I am only interested in hammer fired DAO or DA/SA and don't want to go to the 1911 platform.

I am realizing there aren't a lot of options for us in MA. Couple I have seen and liked were the Sig 232, and of course there's the Walther PPK/S (but horror stories abound and worried about warrantee now that they have been dropped by S&W). Of course there is the the bodyguard .380 but I would like to take whatever I get to the range for real practice. What others am I missing? I don't think any of the small Rugers like the LC380 are MA Compliant.

I don't want to get into a caliber discussion or a Hammer vs Striker discussion. Just looking for some recommendations for either .380 or .9 that are concealable and DAO or DA/SA. Any Berettas? Is the Cheetah MA compliant? Other small Sigs? What else? Help! [thinking]

Thanks!

I have been looking into the Sig 938 as of late. I couldn't tell you yea or nay as of yet (haven't tried one out yet).

My sister has been carrying a Sig P290. I do like the way it shoots, however the magazines are a colossal pain to get the last two rounds into.

The Sig 239 is DA/SA and single stack. Bigger than other single stack 9mms like the Shield, but concealable nonetheless.

I edc a Sig P226 in a Crossbreed Supertuck. Very concealable, but heavy for some. I really like it. The 229 or 228 are smaller, but similar. The 239 is a nice single stack that meets your DA/SA requirement as well. All are available in 9mm.

My girlfriend carries a 239. Like others said its larger than a shield but still very conceable and a great shooter. A 229 isn t much larger and has better capacity.

The SIG P232 just doesn't make any sense to me. It is a .380 that is bigger than my 9mm PM9. No thanks.

The SIG P239 is a single stack 9mm, but it still quite large for the capacity. The Kahr K9 is much smaller, but then you don't want a striker fired gun.

The S&W 3913/3953 is an option. You'll need to find a used one. I'm not a fan of slide mounted safeties so I'd prefer the DAO 3953, but those are harder to find than the 3913.

ETA: there is a 3953 on gunbroker: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=391501074

H&K P2000SK? Is that too big for what you are wanting? It's on the roster in .357 Sig, not sure if that means the 9mm version is ok or not.

I have a 9mm P2000SK and I like it a lot. It's very accurate and very reliable. However, the roster is structured such that only the listed caliber is compliant. Also, to my knowledge, the P2000SK does not meet the AG's arbitrary and capricious BS.

For sub compact DA/SA guns that are fully MA compliant, the only one I can think of is the SIG 239. That said, don't let the MA compliant stuff limit you.

Sig P250 is a DAO hammer fired gun and they make a compact version that is relatively carry friendly. MA approved.

I'd rather have a SA/SA like the 239 but it is another option that I don't think has been mentioned.

I don't think anyone mentioned Walther PPK yet. If it was good enough for James Bond...
I wouldn't worry so much about what the Mass list has. I've got a Keltec P11 and a Sig P290 that fit your requirements. They are out there

Any Berettas?

Beretta 92FS INOX Compact. I own one, it's a great pistol. No problems with it at all, shoots anything, and reasonably accurate.

TK- I LOVE that Beretta! Had the full size one in my hands on Saturday. Truly awesome machine but no good for CCW as I'm a pretty small guy. I don't think the Compact is on the approved list in MA though is it?

I'm in the Glorious Republic of Quahog (RI), so I don't know about the list. I'm 5'6, 130lbs, and that pistol disappears when I wear it IWB without a holster in my apartment. I've applied for a carry permit and when I get a permit, I will carry this pistol. It's about the same size as a Commander 1911, and it's smaller than a Tokarev by a quarter inch. The wide-ness isn't noticeable to me unless I hold my Tokarev and my Beretta in each hand.

SIG. SP2022. Mine is just as accurate and reliable as my P229. And is lighter because of the poly frame. If it's good enough for one of the top anti-terror units in the world, it should be good enough for EDC in Bashton.

I'm a big fan of sigs. I've heard they had some QC issues with their NH made guns, but my Exeter made P229 is flawless. It must have been from a run before their QC went down the shitter or after they fixed it. Go with a 229 or smaller.

CZ-83? 12+1 rnds of .380. DA/SA. Bigger than a pocket gun, but easily concealable with a decent holster.

I've got a couple surplus CZ-82s in 9x18. Awesome pistols.

ETA, noticed the MA compliant requirement. [rolleyes]
The CZ-82 and 83 use the same mags so you ought to be able to find some pre-ban mags around.

I shot a CZ 82 and seriously considered buying one. They're nice pistols. I'd assume all milsurp mags would be pre-ban. It's a lot cheaper than a wonky SIG or a Beretta. Check the list [wink]

I carry the CZ-82, (military variant of the 83) 9MMMak, easily concealable, ammo can be found, and deadly accurate. the blowback operation means there is some bite in the recoil but it also means its reliable...

Thanks everyone! Went for the PPK in stainless. Hoping against hope for not a lemon. First trip to the range will be tomorrow. Took a big chance but the gun fits me perfectly and there just aren't many options for a DA/SA or DAO hammer fired in MA.

New or Interarms? .380 or .32? I've always wanted a PPK.

New S&W - Putting it up for sale. just doesn't fit my hand with my arthritic thumb. Damn. Great gun. For sale now in NES classifieds.

Check out the PK380. It is the new age version of the PPK. It is also cheap at like $350.

Now that it seems like the Remington R51 is a failure (at least right now, maybe it will be fine in a year) I might pick a PK380 up for any of the new shooters I encounter.
