How often to replace revolver springs?

I have seached this topic and have come up empty. What i would like to know is how often one should replace the springs in a revolver? Or is it more a matter of rounds fired using those springs?

Any personal experience would be much appreciated.

Are you having any particular issues with the gun that you hope to fix by replacing the springs? Are you trying to alter the trigger pull?

If I let the trigger out really, really slow it hangs up where it should reset. If I do it at regular speeds I have no issue. So in away I dont even know if its a prob. I question it because it was made in 1969. I dont currently have a revolver to compair it to.

Unless a spring is obviously broken, or you want to adjust the trigger pull, it shouldn't even be an issue.

Some things really don't need to be replaced or tinkered with... this is one of those cases.

The revolver is a J frame model 36.

If it bothers you swap them out. If it's a S&W revolver there's plenty of tutorials on youtube if you search for it. It honestly shouldn't even matter, but you can always swap them out and keep the old set in case you preferred the old to the new.

Personally I think it's more trouble than it's worth but that's up to you to decide.

I guess I was thinking more along the lines of a semiauto, where springs must be replaced every so often. It seems I have a thing or two to learn about revolvers. Thank you

The rebound spring is what you are feeling. It is a large compression spring and should not fail. You can have the spring replaced since it is 40 years old.

I would just take it Greg or another gunsmith and have him diagnose and fix the problem.

A good cleaning of the internals may help. You can try it without taking it apart. Carefully remove the sideplate, and spray the heck out of it with a good cleaner. Then apply a good lube where needed. All of the procedures are covered on the internet.
