Hey guys,
I have done some thinking over the past couple of weeks and even though I am a glock guy, I may have to buy an M&P40c this upcoming tax-free weekend.

I have a g22 and I want a g27 but can't justify spending the $200+ more on a USED gun while free-staters laugh. Nor can I stomach or rationalize the money Kahr wants for the sub-compacts no matter how good they are.

And eventhough I thought I would never get an M&P anything, I have to say that they have developed a strong following as a great gun and I'd be foolish to continue my ignorance of avoiding them.

Anybody have an M&P40c or 9c that they really enjoy or hate that they want to tell me about? Since I already have a fotay (first and hopefully LAST joke of it's kind), I was thinking about making this my first 9, but will probably end up going .40

Also, if you have a g27 that you wanna sell me for <$600 go ahead and pm me so we can just forget about this thread! [laugh]

The only advice I have is to shoot the M&P40/9c before you buy one. There might be something about the gun you just don't like (compared to the Glock line of guns). [grin]

I have and carry a 9c and love it. Of course it had a trigger job done to it by Dave Santurri and that makes all the difference in the world. The Apex kit may make it almost as good as a professional trigger job.

I own the G23, but the grip is not as comfortable in my hand as the M&Ps are. I've shot the G27 . . . once that that was more than enough for me, thank you (probably due to grip not fitting as good as it should . . . I have small hands).

I paid less than $700 for my Kahr PM9 with night sights, without night sights they can be had around $600 NIB.

As for the M&P I have the M&P40c and am very pleased with it. It's definitely a shooter (and I haven't shot myself in the foot with it). The M&P is a great gun, but the Kahr disappears very easily. The Kahr is a easy to pocket carry, and is undetectable with a belly band or thunderwear.

Pretty interesting, I've been thinking along the same lines of "hmmm, pay extra for an older Glock 19 or 26" or "buy a new M&P9c". I'm thinking of renting the M&P this week and seeing how much I like it.
Best of luck and I'll be reading the posts on this thread to see what happens.

BigMike,

We met at HSC I believe and when my 9c and 40c come back from Greg Derr you are more than welcome to try them both. Oh wait, that may be after the tax free weekend. Well, maybe someone here will offer.

Wow, you guys are throwing guns at me. That's awesome![laugh]

I saw that there was an m&p40c on the members classifieds a few days ago and I was tempted. Seeing how the pig roast shoot is so close, I may as well do the prudent thing and wait til I shoot one.

Luckily I have 150 rds of 9mm (though I don't own a 9) that I may be able to test a few.

Also thanks Debbie for the offer[smile], I won't hesitate the next time I see you.

I think one of the things that makes me want to outright buy a gun I've never shot is that with the different grip sizes that come with the gun seem to take "fit" out of the equation.
I'm more of the thinking that if a gun doesn't necessarily fit you right, you adjust and do what you need to do to shoot it well.

I guess I would have to keep an eye out cuz when I see them in the case, I see a $749 pricetag looking at me

An M+P Compact is not in the same size class as a G26/G27/G33. End of discussion. (I'll take crap for that one, but so be it... )

BTW, you don't have to pay $700 for a G27 if you look hard enough. Remember that you can easily import anything made pre-98... prolly find one for under $500.

I find that most people who complain about MA Glock prices simply don't look hard enough. They spend more time complaining about the price than they do looking for the gun they want... "Accepting" than an MA Glock will cost $700+ will just lead you to failure every time.

I have the full size 40 and really like it, I'm going to have Mike LaRocca do a trigger job to it ( I just haven't gotten it to him yet), then I will love it.

I am (or was) going to pick up a 40 compact this weekend myself but I just had to repair the water well at two grand so the wife is saying no to the gun now (and I kind of am also) , I'll see.

I shot one again the other day over at the S&W Shooting Center and it shot nice, the darn MA trigger is the killer, but I will have Mike work his magic on that one to if I get it.

Are you joking?

They are within 1/8" or so from each other in every dimension. They conceal just the same and are actually easier to shoot.

Some can't admit S&W beat Glock at its own game.

I have both the full 40 and the 40c , bought the apex kit did the trigger myself shoot IDPA every chance I get.

The 40c is my back up shoots great ( after trigger is done [rolleyes] ) and you can use the full size mags with the new Xgrip extensions , great gun .

Pm inbound....HA! Been looking for an excuse to shoot you a question!

Mike I have them both and both are fine guns, but don't forget with and M&P comes a 100 plus dollar required trigger job. So, the difference I don't think is as much as you think. Also as DrGrant posted they only cost 700 if you are willing to pay that. I vote save your cash until you can afford the Kahr and hopefully find a non Mass version you will not regret it. I have the PM9 and the PM45 and have not carried a glock since.

Not necessarily!

- Greg Derr last I knew charges $75 (I paid less about 2 years ago). Greg travels a competition circuit, so oftentimes you can meet up with him at a club closer to Boston.
- Dave Santurri charges $85, last I was told.
- I'm told that the Apex drop-in system is excellent and I believe that it runs ~75-85.

Assuming you don't have to ship it, there are cheaper than $100 options.

I do agree that EVERY M&P (in all 50 states) requires a trigger job!

Plenty of free state M&Ps out there with crisp 5 lb triggers right from Springfield.

Two of mine were free state models and the triggers were bad and terrible, respectively (measured 11 and 8# OOB and the 8# one was very gritty). According to S&W, the spec is 6.5-8#.

M&P 9c. love it. had S&W Performance Center M&P Pistol Action Package done. made the trigger very smooth. higly recommend this pistol to anyone and S&W's customer service is fantastic.

I too have an M&P 9c with a Dave Santurri trigger job. Added a crimson t\trace as well. I love it and have never had any problems with it after 1000s of rounds. Shoots well and conceals well in my crossbreed IWB holster.

Handled the m&p40c today and it fit (with only the standard grip on it) who knows if I would actually prefer one of the other grip sizes [grin]

As for the trigger....wow that was bad![laugh] I've understood for a long time that a trigger job would be necessary on whatever one I got.

Overall, with the tax-free weekend looming close...I think I'm gonna have to pick one up no matter what.

The only question: 9 or .40

I'd almost consider the 9 because it would be better shooting in that small of a platform. However, I already own a .40 and would like as big a caliber in that gun as possible.

Four Seasons is doing a great online deal: $465 for any M&P(excluding .45) BEFORE your choice of $50 rebate or 2 extra mags from S&W.

Well you answered your own question there, if you allready own the M&P 40 fullsize just get the compact. The mags from the FS will work in the compact with the XGRIP sleeve -XGRIP-for-S&W-M&Pc-and-other-guns.
