Another angel worthy of praise and remembrance...

Ginny Deardorff was in nursing school when she decided to enlist in the Army to serve as a nurse in Vietnam. "I felt compelled to take care of those boys," she said years later.

Ginny served in Quy Nhon, Vietnam, with the 67th Evacuation Hospital, where soldiers arrived by aircraft when they received injuries on the battlefield.
Several times, her unit came under attack, but she never buckled under the pressure. "We had a job to do!"

Being right next to a hospital in Long Binh, Vietnam, I witnessed first hand what these nurses did on a daily basis under less than ideal circumstances. So many of them just out of nursing training being exposed to daily blood and guts....pure mayhem. It had to be a shock that no doubt carried a lot of internal scars. I hope it didn't hinder the rest of their lives. They were true angels who, besides providing medical help, more so provided an uplifting spirt to those who so needed it. Ultimate admiration.

I've always been partial to Veronica Foster, The Bren Gun Girl.

People call her Canada's version of Rosie the Riveter, but it went the other way: our ad execs made up Rosie the Riveter because Ronnie the Bren Gun girl was so popular in Canada. But she was the real deal: she worked at John Inglis, making guns and looking like a dish at the same time. She could play baseball, handle a lathe, and cut a rug.
