Izhmash has officially unveiled the final production model of the AK-12 Assault Rifle. According to Max Popenker there will be two models, a Light model (5.45x39mm, 5.56x45mm and 7.62x39mm) that accepts all magazines that work with existing AK rifles, as well as a new 60 round quad stack magazine, and a Heavy (7.62x51mm) model that will use a new magazine.

Receiver is still stamped, FCG is still located near the traditional AKM rear of the receiver, gas return block is still 90*, FSB is the same, grip, trigger guard, etc. etc. This looks like a AKM with "dyed in the wool" tacticool parts for people who suck at acquiring targets with their blind eyes. If they had waited 3 more years, it would have been named more appropriately.

In short: It looks gay like a AR.

This is what happens when capitalists get involved. Look, there is still mandatory conscription in Russia, they still use SKSes in the army despite what Wikipedia says on them being decommissioned. There is no way they are going to hand an 18yo conscript, who is going to goof off for two years, a toy with picatinny rails and choices of crap to mount on it. Why? Because it's a big army and they are not going to make that much crap. This will likely be a commercial model to:

I like the fire selector on this rifle, but I don't believe it's a new design... it's the only "upgrade" I'd like to see done to the AKM series
