My home defense pistols (g19/ltt 92) and serious use guns all have lights and optics. My edc (p365xl) does not have a light or optic.

I feel like WML can be a narrow use items in certain circumstances. I am not really against WML but I will say that I am a proponent of having a hand held held light at all times. Using the WML within a home defense context would probably mitigate many of the misgivings that I have about a WML system in general. Personally, I use WML on long guns but not handguns. I am currently use Olight and have had very good results with them.
