Looking for a rifle for 600 yd sniper matches.

For that much money I could hire a butler to walk the 600 yards and stab the bulls-eye with a pen when ever I yell "BANG!" over the bullhorn from the comfort of my sultan's tent.

If i was going to through down $2700 on a platform it would be a Desert Tactical DTA SRS. But my custom Remington 700 5r AAC does the job just perfect for less then half the price (minus glass) so I see no need to upgrade

Gotta be shittin me. 27 hundred?
Here: for half the money, you'll get a custom one. Add a few goodies, like the tac ops bolt handle and a decent finish, and throw the rest of the money into a good optic.

as for optics, it doesn't have to be a nightforce or a Schmidt and Bender. On the range, you'll be fine in this range:

I saw a price today on the Kimber for 2100

Just sayin.

Those guns can be found for about 2k. If the rifle preforms (looks like a ½ MOA), it's not an insane price. The A5 stock alone will set you back a good $600-$700. Looks like it's damn close in specs to the Remington 40-XB tactical.

So? What's wrong with a 700 action, a 26 inch barrel and a Bell and Carlson stock? If you opt for the version without the scope, the price will be around 1100, and you'll still have the +20 MOA base and the quality rings. Add 70 for the oversized bolt handle, you'll be around 1200. That's a far cry from the money Kimber want for their rifle, and if I had to bet on sub MOA accuracy, my money would be on Mel's rifle, not on an out of the box Kimber. And it would leabe you 1500 for scope and accessories (maybe a Timney or something.
On the other hand, someone mentioned Savage. I'd take a Savage with accustock and trigger anytime, preferably a 110.

I'm an owner of one of those SniperCentral Packages.

I'm very happy with it. It shoots somewhere around 0.75 MOA with 168gr FGMM, which, as a shooter, I can only do from a very stable position.

It is, however, not a 'custom' rifle. It's a factory action in a (nice) aftermarket stock, with all the extras taken care of already. If I was shooting serious matches or wanted to spend serious money, I'd go GAP.

Price aside, is it a good rifle?
That,s my question.
My other choice was a SIG-Sauer SSG 3000 <img src="http://www.northeastshooters.com/vbulletin/attachment.php?attachmentid=40305"/>

I'd go with the Sauer over the Kimber, but I'd go with GAP over both of them. Talk to the guys you know who actually own and shoot them (well.)

No experience with a Kimber or the Sauer but with budget in $2700 area there are many options available to you. My suggestion is do research and many of us here on NES will have no problem giving you input on there platforms and most will even let you give them a try for yourself. If your going to the Pumpkin Blast IV I will bring my Remington and let you take it for a spin.

Mike, I assume you reload so I would suggest looking at something in the 6.5mm family. They will beat any 308 in a comp, less recoil, better B.C, and cheap to reload. Unless you have to shoot 308 by the rules, if so disregard this post.
I have 2 260s and I love them both, I shoot them more than anything else I own. I have a 308 a couple 223, and a 300saum. The 260s see the most rounds. The 6.5 creedmore is a great round also, if I didn't have so much invested into the 260 I would shoot the creed. I just like the fact that many people shoot the factory stuff at sub .5moa.

What rifle would be good for that round?

Tubb2k. I hear Jeff is selling one to pay for Harley chrome.

In the 2.5-3k price range you can find Accuracy International AE MKI or even a MK II.
Although, I have been happy with off the shelf Remington 700 PSS or even SPS variants.
You can easily get a different stock/chassis to suit your tastes once the barrelled action is proven good.

Heres a very nice 6.5 Creedmoor. I know it might be over your budget but this is something I would look into. If you want to come down to Raynham we can take out the 260s and you can try them out. They outshoot me, both were built by a local smith. One is a Rem 700 action, trued and blueprinted, Kreiger 1-8.5tw med Palma @ 28", Manners T4A Stock, and DBM. My other 260 is a Stiller Tac30, Bartlein Barrel 1-8tw 19" with brake and custom contour, Jewell Trigger, DBM, Stiller 20MOA Base, and sits in a Manners T5a stock. I would put these against any GAP gun, without the added expense of name and wait time. With a GAP you are looking at spending a min of $3000 and upwards of 1 to 1.5 year wait.

PM Me if you are interested. A few other members here have shot them.
