Looking for AR15 upper build ideas

I can only say I bought a wilson combat match barrel

http://www.midwayusa.com/product/49...eight-contour-16-1-in-9-twist-stainless-steel

it shot about as well as my green mountain standard "mil spec" barrel. which even with reloads wasnot that great vs my RRA NM A2 which will shoot just under 1" with almost any decent bullet and load....now if I only could shoot to sub 4moa skills!

Every build so far I try to up the barrel quality.... mosr resent is a CLE with CLE chamber

This is the barrel I was looking at: "Wilson Combat Match Grade Barrel, 556NATO, 18" Fluted Barrel, 1:8 Twist, Fits AR Rifles, Stainless Finish TR-556RC18F-18"

I agree that WO or CLE are probably better options and their prices aren't prohibitive. The shot groups from WO appear to be what I am looking for.

The bottom line is that I don't want the rifle to be the limiting factor in my shooting. If it shoots 1-2 MOA @ 100m, then how am I reliably going to put it through a 2" eyebox at 200m? I want 1/2 MOA and I am fully aware how difficult that is to attain.

This is my goal also. I have pulled off a few almost .5 moa groups with my "varmint" build with a wilson ARMS heavy barrel but with the time and development I put or didnt put into that riffle It was more like .75-just shy of 1" on average. This is from a rest on a nice day. So I decided to go a different route and build a 18" heavy barrel with the CLE chamber with a nice scope ( i continue to save for that) and hope to spend more time on load testing and find that .5MOA load. In a nut shell I could possibly just buy a bench gun with some other cal and go from there but im bull headed on a AR that will shoot at least .75 or less on a regular basis.

Right now one of my most accurate scoped gun is a 1903a4 clone and I have finally got a load that will shoot MOA ...best to date is 5 group 5 shot run with a .894"- .1.1 groups range. Personally im happy with that for a 1903a3 and reproduction scope.

Just an update to this thread, I ordered a White Oak upper built with their SDM 20" bbl.

I will post pics when I get the actual upper. In the meantime, I still have two unbuilt upper receivers...

I have a bunch of lowers to use with several Geissele and LaRue triggers as well as a chromed RRA NM. For now, it will get a Vortex 2-10x that isn't in use.

Looks like a short version of White Oak's match hand guard.

The tube is 2" and the same as used as their varmint uppers only 15" not 12". There is no link to the upper because they are building it to my specs and don't list an upper with the SDM barrel. Here is a link to the bbl:

ETA: I also don't have a pic of the actual upper due to the reasons stated above.

Cool. Looks like their varmint tube is the same as their match tube except shorter and it doesn't have a hand stop slot.

White Oak makes good stuff. The owner is a talented high power shooter and a good guy.

They were great when I spoke with them on the phone and were willing to make the changes I wanted without affecting the price. Since its custom there was no desc I could reference and had a bunch of questions. She was great: Patient, informed, and helpful.

Since they had the bbl in stock the upper will be a two week build. I can't wait to try it and post pics.

I know this thread has been buried but I finally got everything together today: SDM upper, new lower, and SWFA scope. Guess its time to FA10 the sucker huh?

Te groups seemed to open up after the first 60 rounds so I ran a boresnake through it 3 times but that didn't help a ton.

That is a full IPSC target at 100m.
