M&P 45 Trigger - Holy Mother!

Wow! From April 2009 to four new posts today! [shocked]

There are lots of threads here on the M&P and the travesty of a trigger they install in the MA pistols at the factory. I purchased a brand new pre-owned M&P 45 a couple of weeks ago and the friend who referred me to it (Hi Pete [wave]) described the trigger as "pulling a stick through mud". The previous owner had purchased an Apex AEK set but never installed it. I got the kit and did some research and reading. After installing the parts and doing some polishing, the trigger is an absolute dream for a striker fired pistol. I and very anxious to get a pull gauge on it to see exactly what the pull weight is. I'm expecting 2-3 lbs. the let-off is crisp and over-travel is tiny. I may reduce the over- travel just a tad more after firing a few hundred rounds through it as is.
The stock parts can be cleaned up to vastly improve the feel at zero cost. The only thing I think is required beyond shaping/polishing is a reduced trigger return spring. I'm happy to share my experiences with anyone in need.

Any one know if the Apex trigger is as great as everyone says? I'm very interested in the M&P 45 but after shooting the 9 this past weekend I had sworn off the line. It actually hurt to shoot! I then fired the glock 21 and it was perfect! If I can get a smoother trigger I'll be one very happy guy!

I have an APEX w/a RAM kit in my 9c. I'm happy with it. I've never shot a Derr or Laroc.. trigger so I can't compare. The APEX, (IMO) transforms the gun from it's factory MA status. I have shot a NON-MA M&P 45. I didn't think the trigger was that bad. Not as good as my Apex, but not nearly as bad as the Ma trigger. I have to agree with one posters comment about S&W Q.C.. They don't seem to give a $hit about the MA guns nor are they sympathetic. You'd think given it's a MA company they'd give MA pistol buyers some consideration w/either price or service but it doesn't seem to be the case.

The apex kit is key, had one in my. 45 what a difference. With my. 40c I spent an hour with some files and a stone ... made a world of a difference, do a Google search you'll find a nice DIY power point thingy

sent from my truck while driving down 95 in the high speed lane doing 55

My gf has an m&p 40c and I was thinking of getting her a trigger job, but she is an SPO would there be any legal issues if she had to use her gun on duty with having a trigger job done? That is my only concern on whether doing it or not.

Where I work it is against policy to modify a work gun. If there are any issues talk to the armorer.

Whatever you do when you get a trigger job make sure the reset gets reduced, too. The stock M&P reset is waaaay too long. The repaired ones are great.

Greg Derr is excellent

I'm new to shooting but when I bought my M&P 9 in November 2011 I just knew the trigger was wrong. I have since used other pistols that were much smoother and lighter. I brought mine to Greg Derr and he had it done in a couple days. I don't know if he always works that fast but this time he did. I'm back to loving this gun. Very smooth trigger and nice pull. I'm thinking of adding an M&P .45 to my purchases and if I do, he's going to get it right away.

I shot the M&P 45 tonight and I loved it! Not the ma compliant trigger so it was very smooth and very accurate. This is the only M&P I prefer to the glock (personal preference). It fits in my had well and is thin enough to conceal carry. This will definitely be my next purchase!

I put in my apex kit in my m&p45 earlier today. I still have to put the new striker block in, but the B's were on so that took priority. It was a night and day difference. :)

I put the Apex comp kit in my M+P9. I did the work myself with a little extra. I mirror polished all the Apex parts before I installed them. Polishing the sear was made easy by putting a drill bit the the hole and using the bit to hold the part while polishing it. The sear looked like Stirling silver when I put it in! Result was the best trigger I've ever felt. 3.5 pounds smooth as butter!!! Not a mighty claim as I've only felt a dozen or two custom triggers but the Apex is worth every penny in my book.

The Apex kit will be budgeted into the purchase. I won't even fire it until it's installed. I've been looking for another carry .45 and I do believe this is it! It's a true pleasure to shoot and much thinner than the Glock 21.
