I got my permit / permission slip to use this place last year . But mass gov web site is so messed up I can't find out when or if its open this year . Any one wanna help me out . My google skills suck.

I can't rember how I found the page last year I rember I dig around and found the info but I can't seem to find it. Heck I can't find the address to send my ltc Info to...
Calling is hit or miss last year the first person I talked to had no idea there's a public shooting range.

I sent for mine this year again - I like to use it when ASC is closed for any reason, or if I want to actually practice with my pistol at full capacity. Send a self-addressed stamped envelope to:

MassFish and Wildlife
85 Fitchburg Rd
Ayer, MA 01432

ATTN: Sue Ostertag

I sent mine and received it back in about a week both years I've done this.

If I do receive my permit I will most likely be heading over from haverhill after I pick up a friend.
With this warm weather coming and my lack of a rifle range I will head up as much as I can. So i'm sure we'll evertually carpool.

Do you need a hunting license also or just the LTC number?

I just sent in my LTC #.

My letter I sent in :

Dear Ms Ostertag,

I would like to obtain a target permit for the Martin Burns area. My Massachusetts LTC Number is XXXXXXXX. Enclosed is a self addressed stamped envelope. If there are any issues or concerns with this request, you can reach me at the above email address or <phone #>.

Thank you,

noxin

I am straight up stealing this text. Thank you. The range is open sun up to sun down everyday? Cant find info on the website.

Great place but some weirdo's are there. I thought I had a warden from the park coming up to me to ask for my permit. It turned out it was some wack job who greeted me by saying "Im looking for butterflies!" then proceeded to walk in front of my guns and down the mother$%^$ range toward the berm looking for Monarchs. Being that it was my first time their my mouth was agape from the stupidity.

Needless to say, don't leave your guns on the bench with ammo unless you have your buddy with you. I had my pistol holstered and left my AR at the table and still felt uncomfortable

[rofl]lolol what a ****ing weirdo. i hope you told him to eff off.

Thank you for the warning Boozemonkey. Do all shooters there need permits, or can I bring guests?

I believe someone on here (maybe in another Martin Burns thread) said a warden or someone of the sort told him his guests needed permits. Until someone of importance tells me this I will continue to bring as many guests as I want. I have yet to run into anybody except the guy who mows the grass.

Does anybody have the actual address of this place, or know how to link to a map with a placemark marking the location, or even the coordinates? I've been looking on google earth and can't seem to find anything resembling a range in that area. I'm wondering if it might be worthwhile to get the permit just to have another place to shoot at.

Try 134 orchard st byfield ma.

When you go up orchard from 95 area it will be on your left, look for the wooden sign. If you go past the river, turn around and go back.

Once in the park. Follow the dirt road until you see the range on your right, parking on your left. A bit up the road is the shotgun area. Apparently you have to walk into that range.

I believe the mail box opposite of the entrance is 94 orchard st in byfield.

I went there yesterday after traveling to comic-con and deciding it wasn't worth the 3 hour wait in line. Went with a few friends and cleaned up after we left. We had a blast there and no weirdo's this time!

Thanks for the feedback. I think I found it on google earth, looks like it may be worth sending in for my permit. Never hurts to have another place to do some shooting.

Anyone want to have me as their guest for a little shooting this thursday or early friday afternoon? I'd like to check it out first if possible to see if its worth making the trip out there in the future.

Just got my permit!! Looks like a thunderstorm tomorrow [sad]
Anyone going up on the weekend? Maybe get some tax-free ammo and celebrate!
