Hey everyone I have a MCX spear lt 7.62x39 with a pre -ban USA magazine. The bolt won't lock back on a empty magazine. Whether it's after firing or inserting an empty mag. I wanted to know if there is a way to fix this. The bolt locks back with my regular 10 round mag and when manually engaging the bolt catch. Is this something that can lead to potential problems after firing to empty and the bolt not locking back? Other than this issue the mag works perfectly feeds just fine. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks

I have zero knowledge of Spear, particularly in 7.62X39, but that never prevented NESers from giving advice.
I would compare followers of the 10rounder and the preban mag, there should be a small bump that activates the bolt hold open. It may be damaged or out of spec in your preban mag. Try swapping followers if possible and see what happens.
I strongly doubt that firing your rifle to empty and failing to engage the bolt hold open can cause any damage to it.

Hey thanks for the insight. I did compare the mags and the 10 rounder on the back of the mag has a slightly taller plastic lip on the follower. I think you might be right. Only thing is idk what follower I could replace it with because it a pre -ban and it's different that the 10 rounder.

You can get a new follower and trim it to fit.

Or just keep shooting until you get a click and do one of those cool spetsnaz underhand chamber checks/reloads.

We live in a pretty cool new world where you might be able to send your old follower to someone to scan it, increase the LRBHO bump, and the. 3D print a few in a durable filament

Edit: but I’d probably try trimming a new mag follower first.

Ya if I have to have one 3d printed and modified to work then that's what I will do. But honestly I have been online looking for a follower that I could use but I can't seem to find one. That would be the easiest way to do it.
