Shipping to himself is out -- he can't use USPS, and both UPS and FedEx stopped allowing it several years ago. It's legal, but the carriers won't do it.

If they're nothing special, unique, or family heirlooms them sell them in Oregon to avoid the issue all together, and when he gets to Vermont he can buy new ones.
