Alright,

Well last friday I picked up my CT resident pistol permit. I also accepted a job offer in the fine state of MA.[slap] Job is really cool and the pay/benefits are good. I start sometime in the month of May. Currently being a student at one of Boston's fine education institutions I am living as a non resident here. (In Dorchester)

being that my lease will be running out slightly after I transistion to being a resident and the fact that myself and my girlfriend will need to find a place to live that is local to Boston (she's attending grad school here) I was thinking of legally moving to my in with some family in the scituate/norwell area until we find a place. Being a student she is still a resident of her home town for various reasons (health insurance being one) and goes home on weekends.

She is in the process of obtaining here LTC-A from her home town and legal residence. I was wondering if it would be best for me to obtain my LTC while living with family as it is likely that I will be moving somewhere in the Boston/cambridge/sommerville area. And if I do obtain it then would I need to do anything further than a change of adress form when I find a place and move into the boston/ cambridge/sommerville area.

I Know the area is not the favored place for gun ownership, but its short term while she is in school.

DO NOT LIVE IN BOSTON OR THE NEARBY AREAS!!!! AVOID THEM LIKE THE PLAGUE!!! IF YOU LIVE IN BOSTON YOU WILL GET A RESTRICTED LICENSE!!!!!

BETTER YET DO NOT LIVE IN THE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC!!! IF YOU ARE USED TO LIBERTY AND WANT TO ENJOY IT, COME TO NEW HAMPSHIRE!!! BUT DON'T COME IF YOU VOTE FOR SOCIALIST TURDS!!!!

I speak from personal experience. I lived in Boston for about ten years. If you move there, you will live to regret it...trust me.

Thanks for the help. [rolleyes]

honestly I know that it sucks but my choices are pretty restricted at this point.

What I would like to here about is is there any addtional hoops to jump through if you have an MA resident LTC in another town and you move to Boston/sommerville/ or the PRK as those are likely towns.

I don't know what the chief is like in the area you will be moving to. If it's a green town, you may be better off applying there. Then do a change of address when you move.

If you do some digging you may find a list of surrounding towns with one of them being gun friendly. Believe it or not Mass has some towns that hand out ALP licenses easy, take Fairhaven for example.

If you are thinking about cambridge, somerville just go up mass ave a bit to arlington. If I recall the issue ALP's without issue....

Hi jon, welcome to the forum and to Massachusetts. We have a thread discussiing local gunrights issues here, I've quoted a portion of the the first post in the thread I reccoment giving it a read as the intel is accurate.

Here is a town list type your town and the color and someone will make the edit. Although we will do our best to keep this list accurate and updated as always your local issuing officer has the last say. This list is compiled from the experiences of NES members.

Good luck !

+1 for the Arlington recommendation. Cheaper rents than Cambridge, and near polar opposites in the LTC issuance department.

And, your gut instinct is right on. Get your LTC in your offical town of residence. Unless that happend to be Cambridge, Brookline, or Quincy, you're almost guaranteed to have a better go at it than in Meninostan.

With luck, you'll have relocated to Free America before renewal time.

Jon, I can't speak for Scituate, but Norwell is good for getting an LTC-ALP. The Route 3 commute sucks, but getting to Boston from Scituate is worse. Norwell, Hanover, that area is much better.

Stay away from Boston as far as LTC's go.

Jon - basically, once you get your LTC, you're good for 6 years. You DO have to notify the issuing chief, the chief into whose town you're moving & the CHSB within thirty days after you move, but you do NOT get your permit changed - you keep it for that six years as long as you're still in MA.

Here is a link to the change of address form.

So yes, if your family lives in a gun-friendly town, get your LTC there. Then you have six years to convince your GF to move out of Meninostan.

Thanks for the replies.

I would be moving to scituate/norwell as a temporary situation while we look for an apartment. hopefully only a month or two but I figure considering murphy's law I should start the process as soon as I enter Mass so that I don't end up screwed if the grace period runs out before I find a place.

we would be living local to the boston/cambridge/sommerville area only for an year or two while she finishes her degree. And then I plan to get the F*** out of metro boston.

I just know that boston has seperate requirements than the rest of the state and I wanted to see if I had to go through all the extra requirements if I moved there.

BTW I know how much Boston stinks in regards to laws. Been a student here for almost 6 years now.

I may be wrong but I don't think you've got a grace period - what say you, forum gun gurus?

Just a heads up Saugus is about a 15 min ride from the Bean and the PD is gun friendly..I got my LTC-A No Restrictions with no problems..i also know of a few other people who got thiers unrestricted with no problem.

Does CT have an Assault Weapon's Ban or a Restricted roster like Mass does?

If it does that move into Mass may be your last chance to buy certain guns new, and/or at competative prices.

If I knew then what I knew now, I would have maxed out my credit card before moving out of Maine.

Arrrr

CT doesn't have any handgun bans, but their AW ban pretaining to
rifles is worse than ours is in some respects. They have some kooky
stuff down there, like "name" bans and bans on certain guns in certain
calibers. (EG, an AK in 5.45 x 39 is legal but not in 7.62 x 39!). They
also have some bizarre ban on machineguns stating that any registered
MGs must be "all or nothing" and cannot be burst or select fire!

I live in Dedham, it is more gun friendly the previous years. not great but I had no problem renewing a Class A and getting a Form 1

If you are looking to live in a gun friendly house, I have a 1 bedroom apt in a nice quiet neighborhood for rent, close to the trains too

Do some research into what handguns are not allowed in MA and what is in CT. You could make a lot of NESers happy upon your move into MA - and make a bit of cash for yourself. Very legally too I might add. I've got a couple in mind, feel free to PM me if you do consider this.

According to the various lists and rumors I've heard, Weston, Wellesley, and Arlington are all places very close to Boston that will issue ALP. But if you live in a friendly town, get it there first. The Boston PD will not have any say or be able to change it because they would not be the issuing authority.
