I have read the post about Bass Pro no longer carrying the 22a with target grips. I have seen the 22a with target grips in many stores recently as I have been looking to buy one.
Today I was in 2 shops (Law Enforcement Equip. and McElhiney's in Waltham) and both only had the 22a with wood grips.
What are the chance of me actually finding one with target grips still on it in a gun shop? I know I can buy them afterwards but it just ends up costing me more money that could be spent on ammo or a gun club membership.
Also - I've seen the 22a with hi-viz sites available with the target grips...if all shops in MA won't sell the gun with the target grips, does that mean I can no longer buy the 22a with hi-viz sites? I'd have to get the sites AND the grips after I buy the gun?
I was pissed off about MA gun laws before but now I'm getting really, really pissed. It's the same f'cking gun! ARRGH. [angry]

In my limited experience... you can proudly wear your 22A. You own it legally. You are in the clear.

Should someone in the State of MA decde that the 22A should not be sold, it is the dealer that is in trouble. You can legally buy and possess it. The list tells FFL's what they legally can sell to MA license holders.

Am I right or wrong here?

Thanks,

Rich

You can get a set of the grips for $20, if you know where to look for
them. Some of the shops that sell the gun also sell the grips. [laugh]

I think you're right. I'm just wondering - are all gun shops "smart enough" to know that they're not supposed to be selling the 22a with the target grips? If so, I don't know what my chances are of getting the gun I want (the 22a) with the grips I want (target grips) and the sites I want (hi viz).
And that makes me sad.

It is legal for you to buy... it may or may not be legal for them to sell. I would ask if they have it for sale. If so, go for it.

Remember there are numerous ways that would give them the legal right to sell these pistols. Even if they are not MA compliant, if they bought it from an LEO they could legally resell, as an example.

Go for it, girl!

:-)

If the "they" is a dealer, this is incorrect. Just because a LEO bought it, doesn't "launder" the compliance status of a handgun WRT dealer transfers.

There are dealers out there (that shall not be named for obvious reasons) that use this ruse of LEO washing, but it has no actual basis in
MGL or CMR.

Your general premise though is spot on- as a buyer, compliance matters very little- you can more or less legally buy whatever you can get your hands on. Compliance is the dealer's problem, not the buyer's. I could care less what BS some dealer uses to justify compliance, because it simply is not my problem. If they have something I want, and
it doesn't violate the AWB, I'm buying it. It's literally that simple. [grin]

Some probably aren't, some probably are. Some probably don't give a rats
ass about whether or not it's compliant. [laugh]

Not trying to be a "buster"....don't understand. Have a 22-A with target grips...had no problem getting it...put a C-more on it...and love it. What is the hangup with the 22-A?

You don't live in MA, so you don't have to deal with the BS. [grin]

I guess not, but what is the hangup with the 22-A? Dammit...its just a simple 22. Is it viewed differently in MA?

Everything WRT handguns is viewed differently in MA. The handgun compliance BS dealers face in this state is absurd.

I've been told this by several dealers and just assumed it to be gospel. OMG... that is too funny! Thank you DrGrant for clarifying.

That begs a question. Are there any conditions under which a dealer can legally sell a non-compliant handgun? Or, are there any conditions under which a dealer can legally do a transfer of a non-compliant handgun?

Thanks again for the great info!

Best,

Rich

Becka, I'd just go to a shop and ask them to order what you want, exactly. If they sell it to you, great. If not, try elsewhere. Some shops may even swap the grips for you if you ask.

It's God telling you to buy a Ruger MkIII [wink] [rofl]

Roadblock's problems aren't typical, they're usually not that hard to take apart and put back together.

Yes....

-To someone out of state (eg, via another FFL) - these sales don't "count" because they're not to MA residents.

-Sales between FFLs.

-To a LEO (at least in the case of a gun thats on the roster but may not be CMR 940 (ag reg) compliant, but IS still on the EOPS roster. )

-If the gun is "exempt"- eg, on roster but pre 10/21/98 manufacture (eg, Glocks) or papered as having been in the state before this cutoff. (eg, some guy has a colt he bought in 88, and still has the reciept/blue card for it... this gun is exempt from both sets of regs and can be transferred.

Are the "target grips" the plain black rubber ones that come on it? If so buy the one with the wood grips and I'll trade grips with you. I have wanted the wood ones for my 22A for a while and would gladly trade you my black rubber ones for them.
