Heres my new 8 inch Dan Wesson 357 SuperMag (circa 1980's). Fires the .357 max round. This has been very lovingly used. It came with the original wood grips (probably not used, they look new) and the Pachmyers were on it. I put the wood back on it. Also came with a new in wrapper second barrel, a red ramp site to replace the white ramp on it, multitool, spacer gauge, Uncle Mike (unused) holster, and the carry box.

Notice the ammo sizes - l-r .38spl, .357mag, ,357max

It looks like it might be the equivalent of the SW X frame size.

Good thing is that it will shoot .38, .357mag, or the .357max -if I can ever find any more.

This is one heavy gun !

Edited to add: I just noticed that the wrapper the extra barrel is in has an April 1979 date on it, so I guess I know when the gun was made..since the spare barrel was supplied with the gun when new.

I bet that the recoil from shooting .357 magnum is pretty soft because of the heavy weight of the gun.

Nice gun, Dennis. That's an interesting location for the gate
latch, too.. first time I've seen a revolver that had it there.

Sweet revolver Dennis.

I believe that Remington still makes .357 Maximum brass (for now anyway). I see it on eBay from time to time. Do a search in the reloading forum on THR. I remember a few people discussing reloading the .357 Max a few months ago.

I have another DW, a K22, and the latch is there.

Those of you who went to the Pumpkin shoot and shot the 'blind' competition, shot it there.

I think it's a DW specialty. I don't like it as well as the more common placement as it means you have to move your hand to get to it and it seems to be a little finicky releasing sometimes. Definitely not for fast reloads.

I've got to get into reloading !

For some reason, I originally thought that you said that this was a SMITH and Wesson, not a DAN Wesson... and when Mike made the comment about the gate latch, I went back and looked at the picture and thought to myself "Huh... looks like a Dan Wesson. I didn't realize that S&W ever used that style...". And rereading your first post, I see I was right... it IS a Dan Wesson, and S&W DIDN'T ever use that style.

I still don't know why I read your first post as S&W, though...

Its a lot bigger than the Dan Wesson .357 that was the first .357 I ever shot. I think the dan wesson gate is actully faster than more common release behind the cylender. I just move my support hand up to the crane, as soon as I get a grip I can release the gun with my primary hand, and I used to open the cylender with one hand and clear it with my thumb. Meanwhile you can grab a speed-loader with your right hand.

Seems like a pretty good design to me.

Arrrr

How the heck did you do that? - amazing !

Technology's amazing, isn't it? Twenty years ago, we'd have to do this by mail. Either that or, you know, actually meet.

However today, I get to screw around with pirated software in my underwear instead of shooting them side-by-side. I'm not sure we've moved forward.

BTW, I'm drinking. Can you tell?
